People's Economics

“We don’t need new ideologies, we need new methods.”
- Emanuel Macron

Two features define our world. People feel disconnected and sometimes angry at a world which seems stacked against them and unfair. Experts seem to be at a loss to provide a clear way forward which create prosperity and happiness for everyone.

The reason for both of these is simple. The world has forgotten that the basis of an economy, the most- basic way we connect with the world, is people.

People’s Economics defines our connection to an ever-closer world in terms which are useful. It is about skills, values, and a focus on the long term where we can seek happiness. It is a powerful synthesis of economic and political thought into an innovative approach which empowers people both as individuals and as citizens of a democratic republic to improve the world.

The project is a book and a website organizing a decade of research and discussion on the popular blog Barataria into a consistent narrative story. It is led by writer Erik Hare but assisted by a team including a reasearch intern, graphic designer, and editor.

People’s Economics has the potential to change the world. But it needs your help to support this team.

The goal is to finish the book and launch a new discussion website by the end of the summer of 2017. In order to do this, the team has to be focused on this project full time. Your contributions will make that happen. It’s up to you to help change the world.

For your support the following levels of recognition are available:

$25 – Your name on the supporting discussion website as a supporter.
$50 – The above, plus presentation of a first draft copy for your input into the final project.
$100 – The above, plus a signed first edition when it is printed.
$250 – The above, plus participation in a round-table discussion to be filmed for the youtube channel and listed as a sponsor of the blog Barataria, with over 400,000 pageviews per month.
$500 – The above, plus you will be listed in the front of the book People’s Economics as a patron.

What is People's Economics? This post on Barataria explains why the book is needed .  Below are some discussion sessions held to work out just what this means, with this summary of their content .

Thank you for your support!

Hello! It's been far too long since the last update. A lot of work has been done but much is left to do.

I have profiles of Malcolm McLean and W Edwards Demming complete - two fascinating men whose life's work created the world we live in. They are the inventors of containerized cargo and Just-In-Time manufacturing.

What's that got to do with it? Because we live in a market based world, not an industrial one. Industry is top down, but markets are bottom-up. That's where this is going. I'd love your input in addition to any support you are willing to give. This will be finished soon for your reviews!

After a few days of more research, planning, and meetings with people who have insight it's back to writing full time.
The first section of People's Economics, "Our World," should be done by the end of this week. It describes what, where, when and how of today's economy - all in terms of "who". It is indeed always about people - their values, their trust, their skills, their fears, and their dreams.
But the most important "who" of all is you, because without your support People's Economics wouldn't happen. Ultimately it is of you, by you, and for you. Thank you for everything you do to make this happen!
Now back to work. It's happy work. I hope that everyone can say that more and more in the future we build together.

Work is progressing, although I've spent more time reading than writing the last two days. You'd think after all these years I'd have all the information I need to write, yes? But I am making sure I have this down well. So it's back to more writing today so that I can finish the first half!

Thank you for your support. Fundraising is slow, but steady. Anything you can do to help by sharing is much appreciated!

Work on People's Economics is progressing well. The first section, a narrative entitled "Our World" in six chapters, is nearly finished. More in-depth analysis in the second section is coming next.

Please consider joining the movement to make this a reality and share it with your friends. There are costs associated with this much research and layout in addition to publication costs.

Thank you for your support!
