Paulie's Prayer

Hello, my name is Josh and I am Paul’s stepson. I’d like to start by telling you all a little about Paul and the things him and my mom are struggling with. Paul Hagen is an outstanding man, down to earth, funny, with a one of a kind personality and sense of humor, who all who know him, love very much.  With over twenty plus years helping to serve and protect the citizens of Ontario County as a deputy sheriff, Deputy Hagen is also a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner for the sheriff’s department as well as a field training officer and former member of the Ontario County Emergency Response Team. He is definitely the kind of officer all other officers should model after in my opinion.  Always having respect for people and willing to help them and not just out there to write tickets and flex the law enforcement muscle. He has dedicated his life to helping others and is now in a time of need himself…See Paul, was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes.  He underwent immediate surgery to have the effected part of his colon removed and then was started on a very high dosage of chemo therapy, to try and get the cancer cells that had spread under control. The chemo has made him very ill with many side effects such as tremendous stomach pains and a huge amount of weight loss, just to name a couple.  His only escape is to sleep whenever he is able and not in pain. It is very hard to see him in this shape, frail and almost zombie like. It tears the family up to witness this and have no control over it.

Meanwhile all this is happening,. Mellissa Hagen (Paul’s wife, and my mom) has been under immense stress not only do too the thought of losing her husband and the financial difficulties that go along with cancer treatments, co-pays and surgery but also one of her other sons and Paul’s stepson Seth Hall was just diagnosed with Scheuermann’s disease (a deformity of the spine), Scoliosis and clinical depression.  All three in a very short period of time and All of which require many trips to the hospital for treatments as well…As you can imagine this is all very difficult to manage while working a fulltime job on top of it and trying to take care of the house and help Paul at the same time. They have been battling these troubles for a few months now never asking anyone for help, always putting on a strong front and smile but secretly feeling alone in this fight. See, my parents are sooo strong willed that even I didn’t know they were having difficulties with bills and things until my mom finally confided in me recently that things were not ok financially and that Paul will need to be out of work longer than his disability will be in effect… This is where you and I come in….I am hoping this page and the help of family and friends will generate some funds to help them at least relieve some of the stresses caused by the mounting hospital bills and expenses that have piled up,.. so they can focus on what means the most in life,... each other and family. So if you are able to donate anything at all to help them, even if it’s just a dollar, many one dollar donations add up.  It would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time, consideration, and generosity.
