I am a retired Sergeant Major and a disabled veteran from Special Forces. I will be walking the Appalachian Trail (2,190 miles) with my daughter starting on March 1st, 2018.  I will be raising funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation ( www.specialops.org). 100% of the donations will go to the foundation and will be used in the following manner:

1.  College scholarships for the surviving children of fallen Special Operations service members.
2.  Family & educational counseling, including in-home tutoring.
3.  Immediate $5,000.00 financial grants to severly combat wounded Special Operations service members.

I hope you will consider donating any amount for hiking the Appalachian Trail. I will be collecting donations from now through September 2018.  Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

There will be photo’s posted on my site as well as on the Special Operations Warrior Foundation site throughout the hike.

Thank you for your consideration and any donation would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me with any questions.

Regards,

Paul Gaumond

UPDATE: Currently in Damascus, VA and resting for a couple of days. I have gone over the highest peaks in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Completed 60 miles over the last three days so my legs are getting stronger. Still dealing with constant snow and very low temperatures. Water sources are difficult to come by, but managing. We have reached $18,619.00 . Thank you to everyone that has donated. Our overall goal is $25,000.00, but our next intermediate goal is $19,000.00. Please pass this endeavor on to family, friends, and colleagues as every donation makes a difference for the children of fallen Special Operations Soldiers. I want to thank my wife Patty for her constant support and deliveries of supplies.

Also I want to personally thank Bass Pro Shops for their donation of two Marmot sleeping bags which have kept me warm in all the snow. #bassproshops

And, thanks to Stronger, Faster, Healthier for their donation of an excellent product for muscle re-building and energy. #SFH

Mountain Khakis for their donation of rain pants which have served their purpose and beyond.
Found a bench in Cherokee National Forest to eat on and look at the mountains.

I am currently in Erwin TN. I’ve hiked through snow, high winds, and single-digit temperatures. It’s been a struggle but the views of nature have been amazing. I have met some incredible people along the way and am encouraged by their kindness and sense of adventure towards their goals. I am regularly posting updates on Facebook.

I am energized by the many families who have contacted me to tell their stories about Special Operations fallen heroes. I appreciate the many donations we’ve received so far towards this worthy cause. Please share my story so families of these fallen heroes will continue to benefit from this important organization.

Well I just finished three weeks of skiing in Big Sky, MT. Great training for the legs.

Still on schedule to start on 1 March. We have now reached $14,759.00. The goal was to get to $15,000.00 prior to starting so every little bit helps. Please consider a small donation to meet this intermediate goal. Naturally, the primary goal is $25,000.00 by the end of September so pass this endeavor on to family, friends, and colleagues as we are making a difference in so many young children’s lives.

I will provide weekly updates when I am on the trail.
