Pastor Laurie's Climate Travel Fund

Over the past few weeks, Americans have been supporting relief efforts for the victims of so many disasters, including hurricanes Harvey, Irma, & Maria, everywhere from Houston to Puerto Rico.  While these relief efforts and acts of charity are needed, it's important now to talk about how to reduce humanity’s contribution to the growing climate crisis. 

I have received a scholarship to attend the upcoming Climate Reality Leadership Training later this month with Al Gore.  It's a very special opportunity for me not only as my denomination's  regional Climate Justice Rep (UCC Northern California Nevada Conference) and Skyline church's pastor, but personally as a life-long advocate for environmental and social justice.  I led our conference in passing the resolution in response to the US pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord ; and with Skyline church's Green Team attended rallies and spoke out to stop coal shipments through Oakland .     

I am raising funds to offset travel & education expenses:
Flight:  $400
Ground transportation:  $200
Food, fees and misc:  $200
Purchasing items for sale at the conference:$200

Any extra funds will be used in supoort of climate leadership initiatives and actions. 

I'll need the funds by November 15 to reimburse my credit card.  

I am so thankful for this opportuniy and your support - I am already a leader in the climate change movement; this opportunity will give me that much more knowledge, skills, connections, and ideas.  There is so very much that can be done with love, leadership, wisdom, and courage to lead our nation in change.  Just look at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King!
