We are community members and service providers who have come together to respond to an overdose crisis that has taken so many of our friends and loved ones from us.

This is a health emergency that requires immediate action. Ethically, we are obligated to respond, we have no other choice.

In the last year, a countless number of pop-up overdose prevention sites have opened. We are inspired by the actions taken in these cities and are determined to provide our community with the same life-saving service it needs.

We acknowledge that Overdose Prevention Ottawa operates on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory.  Those most hit and impacted by this crisis continue to be those marginalized by deep poverty, racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, genderphobia and ongoing colonization.

In response, we aim to provide an inclusive space for all members of our community. Funds from this campaign will support our start up and maintenance costs and ensure that lives can be saved.

Please support us by contacting the City council and Chief of Police to let them know we need this life saving service. Not sure what to say? You can use this letter as a guide.

This update is a wee bit late (err like a week...), but WHAT A MONTH IT HAS BEEN!! Not only have we been operating our essential health service every day from 6-9pm, we have also been advocating the local, provincial and federal governments to act to address the overdose emergency facing our city and nation! Additionally, we've held volunteer training sessions, held a grief and bereavement workshop, attended fundraising events, and organized two direct action events. Thank you for your support! Our guests and your support keep us moving!!

We have so many needs and will be without funds in two weeks time.

We have thrived and been able to show exemplary care because of YOUR funding...THANK YOU for helping to save lives and show dignity and compassion to deserving people.

Now, as we move into the winter months, outside care means winterized infrastructure which is costly. Please consider donating to help us continue our essential support services!

If you have winterized gear or infrastructure to directly donate - please contact us: overdosepreventionottawa@gmail.com

Thank you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the 60+ supporters who made their way to OPO tonight to counter the neighbours who attempted to stop us from providing life saving services.

While they were few, they resorted to constant yelling, insults and physically attempting to hold our tents to prevent them from being put up.

But, you came. You came and showered us in your support, to stock us up with donations and most importantly, to show people who use drugs that they are worthy of care and love.

Thank you, profondément, for the magic our dearest friends...

I am Lindsay Snow and I will be managing the Go Fund Me account on behalf of Overdose Prevention Ottawa.

I have to write this here for accountability sake (and so we can access our money from Go Fund Me!) If you have any further questions about the funds in relation to this campaign, please email us at overdosepreventionottawa@gmail.com

Questions I need to answer publicly from the Go Fund Me official folks:

1) I am the Go Fund Me coordinator for the OPO group

2) I am going to withdraw funds in my name to then allocate towards OPO's needs as the group decides.

3) I will withdraw cash from the account and provide to members as the group determines.

Thanks again to everyone who has donated! You are reducing the harms of stigma and saving lives!
