Help for the Ortega Family

"We Are All #22"

An LA Galaxy South Bay family is in desperate need of our help...

In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 12th a dedicated family man, Salomon Ortega Sr., leaned over, kissed his wife Dulce goodbye and left home, something he’s done countless times over the years as he leaves for work before sunrise. He departed as his four children slept - Mateo (7mo), *Salomon Jr. (11), Leah (13), and Alma (19).

As he travelled on the 110 Freeway before dawn, something happened that would change the lives of the Ortegas for ever. A multi-car pile-up shut down all northbound lanes. A chain reaction accident swept up at least a dozen cars, including the one Salomon was travelling in. There were a number of injuries, most non-life threatening, but a couple of critical injuries. Unfortunately, Salomon was one of the unlucky ones.

He suffered severe head trauma was rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was immediately placed in ICU. For the first couple of days, the big question was whether or not Salomon would survive. The swelling on his brain was so severe that he spent the first couple of days being moved between the ICU and the trauma unit, as his doctors did everything they could to keep him alive.

As of today, Salomon is still with us and still in the ICU at Harbor-UCLA. He is expected to be there indefinitely until his condition can be better assessed. The extent of the damage and the long-term prognosis remains murky.

One thing is certain though; if Salomon survives, the road ahead is going to be very rough and long for both him and his family. There is a high probability of severe brain damage, the extent of which remains to be seen.

Salomon Sr. is the sole bread-winner in the family. The Ortega family’s world has been shattered by these events, and they need our help.

The LA Galaxy South Bay asks that all of our friends, family, and the youth soccer community dig deep and support in any way you can. Whether you can donate a little or a lot, your support of this wonderful family will go a long way to help ease the financial burden that will weigh this family down in the months ahead.

Thank you for your generosity.
