Christ-like Acts of Kindness: “Operation Christmas Stocking.”

Echoing the words of Glenn Beck, I too believe the world we live in to be out of control; with everything being either on fire or upside down, figuratively speaking. Everything that once was good is now thought to be bad, and everything that once was considered evil is now good. I don't even recognize America anymore. I believe the American people to be for the most part the same, but I don’t recognize the stops we are making along the path we are headed down.

One need but read the headlines of the top news stories of just today, to catch a glimpse of what I am talking about. “More Cops being assassinated”, “US Senate sides with our enemy Iran and against God’s people the Jews”, “Planned Parenthood receives additional Government funding”, “11-year Army Veteran dishonorably discharged for hitting Afghanistan Police Chief in the face for raping a 10-year-old boy”, “Yet another Syrian Christian community overrun by ISIS and given ultimatum to leave or be killed”, “Syrian Christian refugees unwanted in Europe”, “Young teenage boy in U.S, says he feels like a girl and wants to shower with the girls and wants to use the girl’s bathroom”, “Black-lives-matter”- black supremacist group vows to kill all whites”, “Government agrees to transplant whole communities of Muslim Somalis to Minneapolis, but can’t bring in Christians from Iraq and Syria”.

With the constant barrage of craziness from our news media, one can’t help but ask the question “What can we do to bring perhaps some degree of normalcy back in our lives?”. “How do we preserve our sanity?”

The answer can be found in the Bible, Acts 20:35, “I have shewed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

The act of giving to the weak and those in need can heal the body and the spirit and bring us closer to Jesus Christ, who through his atoning sacrifice and his resurrection gave us all the gift of eternal life.

In the course of all this discussion about what lives matter, I say to all of you that our soldier’s lives matter. Let us not be so distracted by the insanity of the world that we forget the lives of all those who continue to serve our nation, each and every day by putting their lives on the line.

Over the past ten plus years, our men and women in the armed forces have answered the call and have sacrificed much for our country. Even while their images fade and are for the most part absent from any news reports and the national consciousness of the American people, they continue to serve proudly in silence. Many have multiple tours to combat areas in the Middle East. Many have been separated from their families and loved ones for extended periods of time. Many have physical and emotional scares they will have to deal with the rest of their life.

According to a recent report, one out of every ten veterans alive today have been seriously injured at some point while serving in the military, and three-quarters of those injuries occurred in combat. For many of these 2.2 million wounded warriors, the physical and emotional consequences of their wounds will continue to endure long after they have left the military.

Veterans who have suffered major service-related injuries are more than twice as likely as their more fortunate comrades to say they have had difficulties readjusting to civilian life. They are almost three times as likely as other veterans to report they have suffered from post-traumatic stress (PTS). And they are less likely in later life to be in overall good health or to hold full-time jobs.

But, do they complain about their circumstances or the consequences of their service? With little fanfare or pageantry, their quiet patriotism rings out to an almost deaf populace; who appear to be more caught up in their own Facebook and Twitter quotes than to recognize the sacrifices being made by our military heroes.

Where is our Christ like acts of kindness for our troops serving in far off lands, who will be away from their families and loved ones during this Christmas Season.

For the 12th year running Operation, Give is providing you an opportunity to show your support through giving the gift of Christmas to our men and women serving in the military in Afghanistan and South Korea (where some 30,000 troops are serving)

This month we are kicking off Operation Christmas Stocking, in hopes of yet again being able to stuff thousands of Christmas Stockings, with all kinds of great, wonderful things for our troops. We hope to be able to ship between 8,000 to 10,000 Christmas Stockings to soldiers in Afghanistan and South Korea, distributed by volunteers from the USO.

This is your chance to be part of this great Giving Event, Operation Christmas Stocking. This is a way for you to communicate your support, love and appreciation for all our men and women in the armed forces do to make our world a safer place.

Stuff your stockings, or send in items to be stuffed into stockings at our warehouse.

We need your help. Contact Elaine Ward at Operation Give to find out how you might help, [phone redacted] or email her at [email redacted]

Now is the time to give your time and resources to help make this possible.
