My Semester Abroad in Cameroon

Greetings Friends and Family,
During the Spring Semester, I am continuing my Junior Year college studies in the Central African country of Cameroon. While abroad, I will be living with a host family in the capitol city Yaoundé, taking classes (all in French!) at the Université Catholique d'Afrique Centrale, and immersing myself in Cameroonian and African cultures.
While at Mount Holyoke College, I have received significant financial aid to help pay for tuition, but while studying abroad I will not receive any financial aid to pay for tuition, books, travel fares, or room and board. Any outside assistance would immensely help defray the cost of the program.
God has blessed me with a giving and serving heart. I love to help and serve others as I have done as an intern in Congressional offices, as a volunteer in my local Oakland community, and as a leader on my college campus. One of my weaknesses, however, is that I rarely ask others for help when I need it. Today, I am stepping out on faith and asking you, my friends, family, classmates, teachers, and church family, to help support my study abroad experience in Cameroon.
As an International Relations major, studying abroad is important to me because it will allow me to learn about the world through first-hand experiences and personal accounts. By living with a local family and taking classes at a local university, I hope to gain a deeper and more robust understanding of the cultural, social, political, and economic climate of Cameroon and other African countries. I selected Cameroon as my place of study because it is a diverse, French-speaking country with an extremely interesting political and economic history.
I am grateful for any financial contribution you can make to support my study abroad experience, no matter how big or small. Every little bit goes a long way. Even if you can’t contribute monetarily, I’d appreciate your prayers for safety, good health, guidance, growth, and learning while I’m abroad.
Thank you to all the people who have supported me this far. I am who I am and where I am because of people like you who have encouraged and inspired me along the way!
