Boston Marathon Run for Oasis & ECI

Friends,

For those that do not know us, our names are Rich Jones and Travis Glendenning.   Rich is on the left in the picture above (minus the crazy moustache...), Travis is on the right.  Rich is a Presbyterian pastor, cross country coach, and community connector in Cincinnati, Ohio where he lives with his wife Debbie and teenaged children, McKenzie and Brennan.

Travis is a Wyoming high school teacher, cross country coach, basketball coach, and track coach....and all around great guy (Rich is writing this...).

Travis and I (Rich) are close friends who train together, qualified for Boston together, and have a desire to see our city come together with flourishing neighborhoods and strong, genuine friendships.

We are running the Boston Marathon on April 18, 2016. We will be raising money for the following organizations that we are involved with:  Oasis and ECI.

Oasis Cincinnati is a part of the larger global Oasis movement. We exist to join, advocate, and initiate collaboration and friendship among faith, civic, and education sectors in local neighborhoods. We take an inclusive, empowering, and holistic approach desiring that all experience their God-given potential.   Oasis was started in London, UK by Steve Chalke and has a local ethic with an amazing heart for people.  (http://oasisusa.org/c-1)

Economics of Compassion is a strong grassroots interest in an alternative economics has led to the formation of a new group in the Cincinnati region. The Economics of Compassion Initiative of Greater Cincinnati (ECI) grew from the ground up, as more and more groups and individuals indicated strong interest in supporting alternative economic systems, ones in which workers and owners share benefit, in which the community is enhanced and not harmed—ones marked by justice, community and relationship.  It was started by Walter Brueggeman and Peter Block.  (http://econofcompassion.org/)

The funds raised will be used by Oasis for a summer camp and feeding program for children in the Finneytown neighborhood of Cincinnati.   Funds will also be used for the ongoing work of developing an Oasis community hub.

Funds for Economics of Compassion will be used to help give a vision for an alternative economy with a strong local ethic.  Funds will also be used as seed money for projects that will help local neighborhoods.

We are hoping to raise $10,000 by tax day in the US, April 15, 2015!  The funds will be evenly distributed between Oasis and ECI.

These organizations mean a lot to us, our families and friends, and so many others across our city's neighborhoods.  Both organizations have a commitment towards encouraging healthy communitieswith real friendships and practical asset based community development.

We have been a part of the work of both organizations and believe in what we are and what we are doing together.

Running the Boston Marathon is a great privilege and honor!  Running means a lot to us.  Community means a lot to us.  Running this race for communities and neighborhoods makes it even more special.

Thank you so much for your donation and your investment in the goodness of communities in Cincinnati.
