Occupational Therapy in Madagascar

Donation protected
Occupational Therapy (OT) has been around for over 100 years but the profession is just starting to develop in Madagascar, an island off the southeast coast of Africa. This past March, the University of Antananarivo graduated the country's very first class of Occupational Therapists! The nine graduates are currently working in various settings including hospitals, schools, out-patient clinics and in homes throughout Madagascar.

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world with over 70% of the population living under the national poverty line of a dollar a day. Half of the children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition and adequate healthcare and therapeutic services are not easily assessible, especially in rural villages. Please join us in supporting Occupational Therapy in Madagascar and their new therapists by donating towards this fund!

Our goal is to raise $6,000 by April 30th for Growing the Nations Therapy Programmes (GNTP),  a NGO in Madagascar to send three national OT delegates to the upcoming World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Congress  in Cape Town, South Africa.  The delegates will be two recent OT graduates, Rado and Mbolatiana, and their professor and founder of GNTP,  Anri-Louise.  The congress  will not only help expand their knowledge and understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy but it will also give them an opportunity to network and learn from other professionals in the field from all over the world.  The knowledge and experiance that they will bring back with them to Madagascar will be invaluable in strengthening and advancing the profession in their country.

All funds raised will go towards their registration fees, airfare, meals and accommodations. Excess funds raised beyond our goal will go to support GNTP's work in providing accessible therapeutic services, programs, and devices to individuals and families in need as well as continued education for local professionals working in the fields of health, rehabilitation and education.

If you would like to receive a charitible tax deduction receipt for your donation, please donate directly to Loving All Nations,  a 501(c)(3) organization based in New York. Select "Madagascar-Therapy Projects" at the drop down menu and they will wire transfer 100% of your donation to GNTP.   We will be notified of your donation and will update this website accordingly to reflect our progress towards reaching our goal.

Please share this fundraising opportunity with others and know that no amount is too small! Rado, Mbolatiana and Anri-Louise will provide all donors a recap of their experience at the congress when they return back to Madagascar.

Thank you in advance for your support!
