for Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Monastery
Lightning struck at the monastery and caused the main building to catch fire on Thursday, June 15th. As a result, the sisters temporarily have no place to sleep. They are in need of mobile homes to be set up on the property until their building can be repaired.

While insurance should cover the cost of the damages, it won't cover the cost of the temporary housing they need, and housing all of the sisters will be a large expense. As all of us in the area know, the sisters are our family. Please contribute what you can in their time of need.

If you'd like to donate directly to the monastery, you may do so by sending a check to:

The Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Monastery is in Crisis!

The first Greek Orthodox women's monastery in America is in desperate need of your help! The health and well-being of 15 nuns is jeopardized by the sick building they are living in.  After 23 years, faulty construction reveals mold, rotting wood, and moisture throughout the entire structure rendering the facility unlivable. Their home, the Church they worship in, the place they welcome pilgrims, has become hazardous.

The mold  that permeates the building has infiltrated the HVAC system severely impacting the sisters' health over the years. The entire system needs to be replaced along with the  rotted wood throughout.

Since the start of this fund, I've learned that despite the sisters' attempts to get the insurance to cover even a portion of these damages, none of it will b e covered!

Let's not leave them homeless. Please help support this wonderful community that in turn helps so many others!

Hello Everyone! As of today, of the funds you see raised on this site, $55,000 went to mitigate mold in the building - a project that was not totally completed.
Currently, our Gofundme has raised $19,819 and an additional $10,410 on Crowdrise.... but we have a long way to go to get all of the sisters back to their monastery.

The living quarters bore the brunt of the fire with water damage sustained in ceilings and floors. The entire building has been affected by smoke damage, electrical and water damage, making the structure unsafe and uninhabitable. The insurance company has brought in a national adjuster from their Major Case Unit because of the size of the mitigation. All the contents of the building that are salvageable must be removed and fumigated and taken off site so that the entire building itself can be repaired, fumigated and cleaned.

Sisters are looking to secure mobile housing to live on the property until the building is pronounced safe and completely mitigated which will take over 7 months. Their insurance company is not covering the costs of temporary housing.

Estimates to repair and replace items are starting to come in.

As many of you are aware, The Monastery just recently completed major mold mitigation inside and outside of the church and living quarters, replacing all 3 HVAC systems, duct work, and windows as well as the building envelope reconstruction on the entire South and West walls of the building. The mitigation and renovation, which has yet to be completely finished, has taken 2 years and now they are faced once again by a building that is uninhabitable.

All of your support has been greatly appreciated!

Earlier today, our beloved monastery was struck by lightening causing a fire. While everyone was inside when the fire started, thankfully, all of the Sisters are safe!!

We do not yet know the extent of the damage, but it appears much of their living quarters are completely destroyed. Currently, it is unsafe for them to re-enter the building.

Please continue to keep them all in your prayers!

Thanks to all of your generous donations (287,000!!!) the Sisters were able to make many of the necessary repairs that were significantly worse than anticipated. They needed to replace the HVAC system, the attic insulation, and extensive roof repairs which were unforeseen expenses.

They had to take a hiatus from the repairs due to the weather, but are hoping to resume the repairs in the spring.

They still need $90,000 to complete the repairs to the windows in their sleeping quarters as well as the entire north side walls of the church and alter.

Thank you all in advance for your support!

Thank you all for your continued support of our Monastery and the Sisters! We have made some progress and are at $204,390 since my last update! That gets us a little closer to our goal... We still need an additional $95,610 towards the goal in order to continue with the repairs.

We have come such a long way and are so close!
