Hello! My name is Andrew Arnold and I am the latest recipient of National Geographic's Young Explorers Grant. As my friends and family already know, this grant has been a lifelong dream of mine, and receiving it is nothing short of an answer to prayer.
My project with National Geographic involves me travelling to Iten, Kenya, where I will live, study and train with the world's greatest endurance athletes for one year. I will be shadowing Kenya's professional athletes as well as their amateur runners, from Olympic hopefuls to high school dreamers, and my research will be featured within National Geographic's Magazine, on their television show, and numerous other academic and media platforms.
The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the incredible journey these young Kenyan men and women take en route to achieving their dreams and representing their nation on the world's brightest stage... the Olympics. Theirs is a story of hope and inspiration, where one can run from rags to riches, from red clay to mondo tracks, from tin roofs to gold medals. I have been blessed with the opportunity to share this story with the world. And although the National Geographic Society is endorsing this project, it is expected of their Explorers to raise the majority of the budget on their own.
That is why I am appealing to YOU to help me raise the necessary funds to bring this story and message to life. Your donation will help to create the next Nat Geo magazine feature, TV spots, book, or Internet sensation. Above all, it will help relay a message that no matter who you are or what hand life dealt out to you; success is still obtained through a delicate combination of gifts, hard work and the love and support of others.
This grant is a testament to that fact, and I trust that through your support we can see this project to its fulfillment. I am scheduled to depart for Kenya on February 29th, 2016. All I ask over these next three months is for my family, friends, and anyone who finds that this project resonates with them, to please help sponsor this work.
