16 Tibetan Families Shop Burn in Fire

$8,923 of $80,000 goal

Raised by 113 people in 20 days
On February 23, 2019, sixteen Tibetan families lost their businesses in a massive fire. The shops were vandalized, looted then burned down to ashes by a group of angry mob protesting the Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) in Naharlagan, Arunachal Pradesh (AP), India. The innocent shop owners at the complex have lost their livelihood and affected by the actions of the protesters.  They have no relation or affiliation between the State politics and the local natives demands.

Here are some articles for more information on what happened.

The families affected by the devastating complex fire are in deep shock and feel helpless. I have been trying to keep contact with my sisters to find out more information but the internet service and social media is still shut down. I moved from AP thirty years ago but I still have family and childhood friends who are living in the travel restricted area. This makes it very difficult for any outside resources and aid to reach people in AP.

We are urging your help with any donation amount that will be distributed evenly among the sixteen Tibetan families affected by the fire. Your generosity will make a tremendous difference in restarting their lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for helping the Tibetan families. Organized by family members in Canada.

Truly is amazing that we have raised $6,066 in just 4 days! A tremendous thank you to each and every one of you who have donated, shared links and others who are asking to donate in cash. We are currently working on this process. Again, please continue to support the Tibetan families and spread the fundraising campaign widely as we still have a long way to reach the target.

*****
This video clip was taken the day after the protesters set fire to the shopping complex. The narrator is explaining that the local fire department only arrived after everything had burned down to ashes. There was a Tibetan restaurant, nothing is left inside, the next shop is a beauty parlor owned by a local native. As you can see, this shop was not vandalized or burned down by the mob. The only damage was to the front door by the fire. Majority of the stores above were burned and there are more shops on the other side and inside. About 15 Tibetan shops were completely destroyed. All you can see inside is burned metal, broken glass and ashes. The narrator told us over the phone that they were so upset when the fire department eventually showed up when nothing was left to salvage. At this time, the shop owners had learned that the protesters had blocked them from entering the complex and threatened to harm them if they pursued to the fire site.
