Who Are the Democratic Socialists of America?
Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.
Why Build a Democratic Socialist Organization?
Bernie Sanders said it best: "Nobody in the White House, no matter how good he or she may be, can address the issues facing working families and the middle class without an active, organized, politically conscious grassroots movement."
And it's not just about the White House. The institutions in our government as well as our economy are run by an unaccountable few, without transparency or democratic input. It is time to demand that these institutions put people over profit.
What is the DSA National Cenvention?
Delegates from all over the country, both from local chapters and "at-large" delegates from places that do not have local chapters. We will convene outside of Pittsburgh to discuss our national stratetgy, take workshops to improve our organizing skills, and unite in a battle cry to elect Bernei Sanders for President.
