Dear Friends,
I am so honored to have been selected Mr. GNI Leather 2016 and taking this journey to IML. I take this committment to our brotherhood and the larger community very seriously.
A few months ago, I was also honored by my national professional organization, The American Association For Marriage and Family Therapy, for my contribution to the mental health field in my home state of California. As an AAMFT-CA Board member, one of the things of which I am most proud, is my/our part in helping to craft legislation making Conversion therapy for minors, illegal in the state of California.
The #BornPerfect campaign is the cause I have chosen to support as an elder and leader in the LGBTQ, leather, and mental health communities. Our Vice President-Elect is on record supporting Conversion Therapy. We must, now more than ever, take efforts to protect the younger generation from these damaging practices which can result in depression, substance abuse, and even suicide.
In June 2014, NCLR launched #BornPerfect: The Campaign to End Conversion Therapy in five years by passing laws across the country to protect LGBT children and young people, fighting in courtrooms to ensure their safety, and raising awareness about the serious harms caused by these dangerous practices that have been condemned by every major medical and mental health organization in the country.
As previously stated, legislation protecting youth from these dangerous practices was passed in California in 2012, New Jersey in 2013, Washington, D.C. in 2014, and Oregon and Illinois in 2015. Today, #BornPerfect @ NCLR are working with legislators and LGBTQ leaders in dozens of other states and helping bring similar protections to the rest of the country. I/they believe that every LGBTQ child is born perfect and that any young person’s identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender should be honored, celebrated, and supported.
I stand behind #BornPerfect in their committment to ending these dangerous and stigmatizing practices across the country once and for all—relegating them to the dustbin of history, and ensuring every child knows they were #BornPerfect.
