Montera Middle School seeks funding to honor the campus's diversity with the completion of "The Bamboo Corridor." The tasks needed that complete the project are: (1) creation of a 7' X 44' mural on a section of the 400 building; (2) acknowledgement plaque for the participants of the multi-year endeavor.

This is the proposal from artist Anna Vaughan:
A mural to be painted on the 7' X 44' space that would be the size of the wall outside the art classroom called "The Bamboo Corridor." The mural will mirror the vegitation/bamboo and architecture of the school and will be executed using a combination of green tones and ombre color palettes, done in a similar style to the Abrams Claghorn Gallery Mural. The artful color and playful composition of the mural will provide students a space to creatively reflect on the unique beauty their environment. I will design and paint the majority of the mural and students will be invited to observe, ask questions and possibly participate as the mural is being painted. As an artist/educator I believe it is important to give students the opportunity to be engaged with the creative process of professional artists.

Please see samples of my artwork and artist resume at annavaughan.com.

The total amount of the grant is $3,200.00

We would like to complete this before the start of our new academic school year 2016-17. We are confident with the sharing of this link we shall meet our goal soon. Please help continue our campus beautification projects.  Our art building is off-white with no expression of color, this does not accurately represent our student body, we need to add color and life to our builidings to make this a more inviting campus for creative expression.

This would complete a project that was started 2 years ago to cover the chain link fence these classrooms face to improve the look and feel around the classrooms.

Hello World!

Another great day with the Montera community. Aside from great speakers for career day, we had our own Muralist, Anna Vaughan talk to advanced art grades 7&8. The rising eighth graders were able to get a few pictures to celebrate their last few days at Montera.

Please give what you can and enjoy the blog and photos of 'art in action.'

Hello World!

Yes, we are enjoying "The Bamboo Corridor." As I mentioned in previous posts students enjoy being in the garden to draw at the benches. And now this year, students took their upcycle shoes, sneakers, loafers and boots and staged them in the bamboo.

Please join us in promoting a positive learning environment for middle school youth and contribute to The Bamboo Mural project's completion.

Hello Bamboo Corridor supporters! Today we are using this space as our "outside classroom" to make pinwheels to be aligned with one of the many global networks who celebrate International Peace Day. This group is called "Whirled Peace." Professional guest artists have been invited to campus to work shoulder to shoulder with our creative Toro's. Please continue to spread the word about our campaign.

Anna Vaughan was an inspiration for our Toro artist as she was focused and filled two areas of the mural. The colors are vibrant and brightens the area. Montera is fortunate to have such a talented artist model "best practices."
Anna sketched with tan quickly and later flooded the area with bright blues and several more Pandas!
