Greetings!
I am Channing Scott, a recent graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing and your Miss. Black North Carolina USA 2016!
I would first like to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, words of encouragement, and donations towards my previous campaign for the title of Miss. Black North Carolina, I couldnt have done it without you! Thankfully, I am back again asking for your help, as I compete for the title of Miss. Black USA!
As a native of the small town, Hillsborough, North Carolina, I am culturally rooted and invested in the values that North Carolina instills within its residents. It is an honor to represent the awesome state of North Carolina while empowering women and young girls along with promoting my personal platform, "Don't Sugarcoat It: Raising Diabetes Awareness in our communities". Thus far, I have parterned with the National Institues of Health, JDRF Diabetes Foundation, and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Foundation, generating continous efforts to raise awareness through research. Also, I was selected as a panel member to the 2014 Hampton University Black Family Conference discussing Diabetes.
In 2011, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, three weeks prior to the start of my freshman year of college. Though prescribed not to attend school, I have remained on Hampton University Dean's list, a representative of the Golden Key International Honors Society, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. It is my goal to become a Clinical Research Nurse and ultimately find a cure for diabetes.
I would count it a great honor for you to be continue to be apart of this amazing journey that I am embarking on! I know that I cannot do this with out your help. I am aiming to raise a total of $3000 by July 30, 2016 to see my dreams become a reality in becoming Miss. Black USA 2016 to further promote my platform and assist with pageant fees. The Miss. Black USA pageant will be held in Washington DC on August 7, 2016. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you. If you are unable to donate, please keep me in your prayers.
