Minpinerie "Savings for Seniors" Fund

Minpinerie is a non-profit Ottawa-based organization made up of dedicated dog-loving volunteers who rescue and foster miniature pinschers that have been surrendered by their owners, willingly released by puppy mills or breeders, or abandoned in shelters. We also rescue, with priority, other small dogs in situations of peril or abuse, and will work quickly to assist women with dogs who must immediately leave their home setting because of domestic abuse, by fostering their pets until they have a chance to re-settle or by re-homing them. We are a tireless team that provides transport, foster care, veterinary care…all to make sure that all our dogs find loving, caring, forever homes.

As such, we also rescue "senior" pets in need.

It is heartbreaking to see families abandoning their senior pets to shelters, or to leave them roaming the streets. That is where we come in and rescue.

These lovely dogs are unfortunately not as desirable to adopters because of their age or age related medical conditions.
They may require more frequent vet visits, and medications for everything from kidney or bladder issues, arthritis to heart conditions, diabetes or dental work. Many require special diets. These conditions are manageable and having the right medications greatly improves a dog's quality of life, so it can live out it's time in the comfort of a loving foster home. They also have, unfortunately, end of life expenses. Minpinerie currently has ten senior dogs in "golden ager" foster care. We provide loving forever retirement and palliative homes for these seniors, but your help is needed to help us establish a fund for their continued care so that we can continue saving dogs, young and old!

Without establishing this fund of SAVINGS FOR SENIORS, our rescue might find itself in a position of having to turn away older dogs if we can no longer afford to care for them. Please help us help them. !!

We are still trying to build this fund and your help is still needed. Don't hesitate to let your friends know to visit us. Just this weekend Minipinerie has taken in a pair of seniors, male and female, 12 years old, who were being surrendered by their owner as he was transferred out of province. Without Minipinerie, their future would not have been very bright, but with your support, we can guarantee them a lovely retirement in a loving foster home.

Another of our retirees: This is Swayze. His mom had to go to palliative care and he was unfortunately passed around among friends and family members before coming to rescue. Now he is living out his golden years in a loving foster home with his senior sisters and a caring mom. He has a serious arthritic condition in his hind quarters and requires daily anti-inflammatory/pain meds to be comfortable.

This is Lolo. She is 11 or 12 years old. She came in 3 years ago with a shattered femoral head and a broken pelvis. She was said to have been hit by a car, but her foster mom suspects she may also have been a victim of abuse. She could barely stand, much less walk. She was frightened, in pain, and aggressive as a result. It was a long road to recovery, but with care, attention, training, she has become a loving girl, trusting her foster mom, but still wary of strangers she meets outside.
Her discomfort is managed and she can now enjoy long(ish) walks with her foster sisters. She is aging quite gracefully, all things considered, as her silky coat goes from jet black to salt and pepper. Lolo was said to be a minpin by the shelter, but as you can see she is more likely a terrier mix. Lolo also suffers from doggie IBS and requires a special home made diet and quality supplements and occasional pain meds for the damage in her hips. She is being fostered by Louise.
This is what your donations help us with. Thank you all for your support!

They say, “Too worn, too broken, too old of age.
Way past his time, he can’t run and play.”
Then they shake their heads and go on their way.
A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn’t belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head,
Cannot justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted away.
When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my sad face, and I finally had hope.
You saw through the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond this cold cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love so dearly, you want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
And I promise to return all the love I can give,
To you, my dear person, as long as I live.
I may be with you for a week, or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart, it will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you,
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

I had tried to set up a monthly donation through paypal but unfortunately I had to cancel my paypal account. I have adopted my Ruby through this organization and she has been wonderful. I cannot imagine being without her. I feel for these poor senior dogs. Looking after them is a kind and considerate gesture. Thank you!
