My uncle, Miguel Angel Ulloa, is one of my personal heros. As the first in our family to ever graduate high school and obtain a college diploma, Micheal (his nickname) has always been an inspiration and trailblazer. My siblings and I grew up with him, experiencing his love and amazingness firsthand. Throughout the years he has given me so much, and now I wish to give a little back to him.

Miguel was 4 years old when he fell off of a hammock and sustained a head injury. He was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was operated and had a shunt placed from his head to his stomach. Doctors predicted the shunt would last without infection for 12 to 15 years, but contrary to those predictions Miguel functioned normally for the past 27.
In August of 2016, however, things took a turn when Miguel began experiencing severe headaches, which medics identified as migraines. His first severe hospitalization came a month later and since then he has been hospitalized 6 times; he has only spent a few days at home in between those extended stays. Since his first visit to the hospital in August, Miguel has undergone 8 surgeries and will be having his 9th - and what we hope to be his last - tomorrow morning, February 15th.
Miguel is a fighter. His first child was born in September, around the same time his first hospitalization occurred, but he has been unable to spend any time with his boy, Baby JJ, because of his condition. He and his fiancée, Yessenia, had their wedding scheduled to take place on January 21st but had to postpone it given the current situation. Regardless of the circumstances, however, Miguel continues to keep a positive attitude. He refuses to believe that he will not make it out alive because, in his words, "I gotta do it for my baby."
Miguel's bills and expenses have piled up given his inability to work these last 5 months. Before his first hospital stay, he was holding a full time job as a Dental Teacher Assistant at Lecom, which he lost as a result of his extended absences. Yessenia, meanwhile, has been juggling new mommyhood, part-time work and night-long stays in the hospital. This GoFundMe campaign is meant to help relieve some of the financial hardships resulting from the unfortunate medical problems afflicting my uncle. ALL funds will be used to cover Miguel's bills and treatment expenses.
Your help and support will mean a lot to the Ulloa Family. As many know, Miguel has always been a vibrant character willing to do anything for his friends and family. Please help me help him!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Alvarado
