Michael Aldinger's Support Fund

Michael Aldinger is one of the kindest and most generous people I have had the good fortune to know. That sentiment is often echoed by the students in our LifeWays Early Childhood Certification program, many of whom didn’t think the training was an option for them due to their financial situation.  Michael, LifeWays North America’s student finances advisor, was the one who said, “Let’s figure this out. I am sure we can come up with a plan to make this training possible for you.” Along the way, he has also gifted the students and his colleagues with a listening ear, sage advice and a generous dose of good humor. Michael is a devoted family man and a good friend to many.

On September 11, our dear friend Michael was struck down by bacterial meningitis. After weeks in the hospital, first in intensive care, followed by progressive care, he is now on the long, slow road to recovery in a rehabilitation center, all the while with his loving wife, Cynthia (LifeWays founder and Executive Director), steadfastly by his side night and day. Gratefully, Michael is expected to make a full recovery from this devastating illness.

The next months, up to a year, will be full of hurdles for Michael. He has already endured intense pain, a series of infections associated with the intensive antibiotic treatment he received to combat the meningitis, and the overwhelming exhaustion that accompanies these afflictions. Thankfully, his mental capacities and wonderful sense of humor have returned full strength. It will, however, be a long arduous journey to regain full use of his legs, and he is diligently, painfully working with therapists every day to begin to stand and, eventually, walk again. He will also likely have other challenges to overcome as a result of the devastating effects of this illness on his body.

As a community, our desire is to pour support over Michael and Cynthia. Alternative therapies that could help Michael greatly in his recovery are not covered by insurance. There are other financial implications that result from a long illness. This remarkable couple have been beyond generous to all of us over the years. In this challenging time, we want to return the love they so freely give and provide relief for a small portion of the burden they face. Any donation, word of encouragement, prayer or loving thought is valued greatly.

Please share this with anyone you know whose life has been enriched by knowing Michael and Cynthia. I’d be grateful if you would share it in social media as well.

Much love and gratitude to all,
