Please help us in lending support to the Meszaros family. This GoFundMe campaign is to help Ben, Cyndi and Finn with their living and medical expenses as they navigate the long road to Ben’s recovery.

On August 9th, while at a pool with his family for their friend's wedding in Jackson Hole, Ben was involved in a tragic diving accident. The results were devastating. The impact burst one vertebrae in his back while fracturing three others. He also suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), needed nine staples to close a deep head laceration, and his fifth rib was broken. Friends were able to pull Ben from the pool and he was rushed via ambulance to the ER in Jackson Hole. Ben was hospitalized and cared for in Jackson Hole at St. John's Medical Center for almost a week before being allowed to return to Salt Lake City for additional care.

Ben is on a long and uncertain road to recovery, but thankfully, he has help. Currently, a number of specialists are treating his traumatic brain injury. There are also teams of physical and occupational therapists, spinal surgeons, and orthopedic specialists guiding the process of ensuring that Ben's back heals as quickly and properly as possible.

This means that Ben is confined to a metal back brace and can’t complete, or needs help with completing, most normal daily activities. His doctors are also doing their best to manage the constant pain that he is experiencing. Due to the TBI, doctors are taking a number of steps to help treat the negative effects that the brain injury has on Ben's everyday life. This includes removing anything that may over-stimulate Ben, since too much stimulus can cause additional brain damage and/or slow the healing process. Sadly, this means that the doctors have recommended that Finn stay with a friend or relative instead of his own home for the next few months. Doctors are also uncertain how long it will be before Ben is physically and mentally able to return to work.

This has been a particularly tough year for the Meszaros’. In addition to Ben's injuries, Cyndi was in the ICU in March for two weeks due to serious complications caused by her congenital heart defect (Cyndi has an artificial Mitral heart valve and takes blood thinners daily), and Ben's car was stolen from outside their home in June and has yet to be recovered.

The Meszaros family has always been a source of encouragement and help for their friends and family. Needless to say, the Meszaros family is in need of our support and it’s time to give back.

We’ll keep this page updated as Ben progresses, and we're hopeful that he will make a full recovery. Your support and generosity will help to cover the mounting medical bills, living expenses, and additional financial burdens that have been placed on the Meszaros family as a result of this accident. Any donation means the world to Ben, Cyndi and Finn and is extremely helpful. Thank you!

Dear friends and family,

We really aren’t sure what to say. We are in absolute awe at the support, generosity, service, prayers, letters, notes, flowers, good-vibes, and outpouring of love we’ve had from all of you over the last 6 weeks. We’ve had tremendous love shown to us from family members, friends, church members, co-workers, clients, neighbors, and even complete strangers. During what has been the most challenging and heart-breaking year our little family has ever faced, we’ve been met with an even more overwhelming level of compassion from all of you. Thank you, a thousand times over, for each and every kind act you have taken to support us during this difficult season. Whether you have donated to help cover the cost of our medical emergencies, or spent time cleaning our house or doing gardening work in the yard, or helped to babysit Finn or the dogs, or sent messages and letters and flowers, or kept us in your thoughts and prayers, we cannot express our gratitude in a way that accurately shows just how meaningful and impactful you all have been. We would not be here without you. From the depths of our souls, thank you for being a part of our little family

Currently, we are thrilled to share that Ben is making improvements. While these improvements are slow (sometimes frustratingly so), we are eternally grateful that Ben’s condition has not worsened. Ben currently attends Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy multiple times a week. These sessions are intended to help Ben heal both mentally and physically, and to mitigate any long-term or permanent damage the accident might cause. Ben also regularly meets with a doctor specifically trained to treat Traumatic Brain Injuries, which has been enormously helpful. As a result of this therapy, Ben has been able to spend a few short sessions bonding with and having dad time with Finn. While Ben has only spent a handful of sessions with Finn over the last 8 weeks, these are by far the most encouraging and joyful times for Ben- the moments when we feel like everything is going to turn out ok. We’ve also seen improvements with Ben’s double vision and ability to handle external stimulus. Lastly, Ben is able to read in short increments and has worked up to ten minutes of quick walking on a treadmill with support from his PT. We cannot believe how much we have been blessed to see these improvements over the last month.

Next up- Ben has an appointment with his Spinal Surgeon on October 3rd to determine how well his spine is healing and to assess the need for surgery. Please be praying that he will not need surgery and that the doctor is able to provide a clear path for Ben’s recovery. We are specifically hoping that Ben can interact with Finn in a way that allows our son to come home, and that Ben can return to work as soon as possible.

Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your love and support. You have changed our lives. We would not be here without you. There are far too many people that we would like to thank personally to do that here. Please know that, as soon as we are able, we hope to be able to personally tell each one of you just how much you have done for Ben and our family and what that has meant to us. We love you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And God bless.

-Ben, Cyndi, and Finn
