$2,910 of $20,000 goal

WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE WHO LIKES OR FOLLOWS OUR 5000 MILE OF HOPE FUNDRAISING JOURNEY TO HELP THE IMPOVERISHED FARMERS AND COMMUNITIES OF GUATEMALA BY DONATING $10 TO OUR MAYA PEDAL HORSE RIDE FUNDRAISER ON GOFUNDME. ALL FUNDS GO DIRECTLY TO MAYA PEDAL TO ALLOW THEM TO GIVE AWAY AND SELL MACHINES AT SUBSIDIZED PRICES. WE WORK VERY HARD EACH DAY TO TRAVEL DOWN THE ROAD WHILE PROVIDING YOU WITH STORIES, PHOTOS, INSPIRATION AND ENTERTAINMENT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DONATIONS.... In September 2017, we embark on a 2 year, 5000 mile horse ride to discover delicious food, visit healthy farms, and raise funds for our Guatemalan Project Partner: MAYA PEDAL. Maya Pedal develops, builds, markets and distributes sustainable pedal powered technology to assist Guatemalans in their day to day life. Their sustainable development initiatives benefit the average family by freeing up their time and allowing them to undertake their food and farm tasks more efficiently and ecologically. Since their inception in 2001, the Guatemalan NGO has gone worldwide in the application of inexpensive sustainable technologies. The machines they build include: corn grinders, metal grinders, coffee de-pulpers, blenders, water pumps, and cargo bikes. For a clearer picture, here is a wonderful video made by Great Big Story : I interned for Maya Pedal in 2003. During my 8 month stint I helped develop new prototypes; I marketed, sold and installed existing machines while promoting organic agriculture in different parts of the country. Highlights for me were seeing how HAPPY whole families were when they trialled then purchased a machine. Everyone was just so HAPPY! Here is a picture taken in San Pedro Jocopilas, May 2003.   My 5000 mile horse ride kicks off in September 2017 and will take me and my horses from Ontario, Canada down to San Andres Itzapa, Guatemala, where I look forward to learning about the new developments in Maya Pedal. Join us on our horse ride fundraiser for Maya Pedal which starts April 2017 and ends when I reunite with Maya Pedal late 2018. Funds raised will go towards prototype testing, marketing and promotion, intern training, and materials and infrastructure costs. The result of your donation to Maya Pedal will be an increase in family well being, prosperity, and health, for Guatemalans and citizens of the entire world. If you would like to donate to the 5000 mile horse ride itself, please follow this link to my website. Thank you very much for your support. Happy Trails... The container of bicycles have arrived in San Andres Itzapa from America!
They are now ready to be converted into pedal powered machines for th farmers and communities in Guatemala.

Check out this link to Mario Juarez' FB feed. He's the director of Maya Pedal. Any thanks to the people who have donated to the fundraiser and to Dave Renfrow who coordinated the bike drive and container transfer.

Dave Renfrow of Missoula, Montana has been a long time Maya Pedal volunteer. Most recently he has been coordinating a bike drive, along with Free Cycle Missoula, to get enough donated bikes to fill a shipment container to send down to Guatemala. Once the bikes get to San Andres Itzapa, Maya Pedal adapts them to make pedal powered machines. They cut up the frames and re-weld them with adaptors, gear reducers and flywheels to make the 18 different models they produce. Grain mills, water pumps, corn dehuskers, blenders, all of these useful variations begin with the donated bicycles. These machines are used in the primarily off grid countryside communities of Guatemala. The people there don't choose to live off grid, they just do, because it's a really poor country.

The money raised on our Maya Pedal GoFundMe campaign helped pay for the shipment costs from Missoula to San Andres Itzapa. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all the donors.

For those of you reading this, we hope you make a donation to our campaign. Also, if you are a spinner, why don't you think about all the things you could power the next time you're in spinning class?

Talk to you soon...
