About Marly:
Marly is a 7 year old female cat who loves nothing more than basking in the sun on her kitty tree, begging for food, and "marming around" (aka trying to talk to her humans). Like all cats, she can be finicky with whom she allows to give her affection and can be grumpy at times (or most of the time) but that's why we love her.
The Diagnosis:
In early February a small lump was discovered on her hind right paw, just behind her pawpad. After taking her in for a biopsy, it was discovered the tumor was a malignant, low grade "spindle cell neoplasm": cancer.
The Treatment:
Thankfully, the tumor was caught in time and the cancer remains in her foot only. However, when it comes to treatment, radiation and surgery are simply not financially feasible. Thus, we agreed to make the heart breaking decision to amputate her infected leg.
While we have high hopes Marly will become a successful tripod kitty, the cost of the surgery is still a burden. Opening this GoFundMe will hopefully ease this expense and get Marly onto the right track!
What the money will go towards:
• $3400 is the max possible amount for the amputation, though there is a chance it could be cheaper, around $2900, but we won't know for sure until after she has returned from the vet (if she has to stay longer due to any unforseen complications it will cost more).
• If the fund surpasses the initial cost, the remaining money will go towards paying for miscellaneous expenses such as medication, follow-up appointments, and cat steps to assist her in getting up on things (the bed, the kitty tree, etc.).
• If there is any money leftover after everything is said and done, 100% of that remaining money will be DONATED to a charity specifically aimed at helping kitties. We do not currently have a charity chosen, but we aim to have one picked out should we pass our goal! We would like to donate to a cat-specific organization since we have discovered kitties have significantly less research done on them pertaining to cancer than, say, dogs. And that's simply no good!
When will it happen?
Marly's consultation is set up for April 10th. We will schedule her actual surgery that day. We will update everyone on when we know for sure.
