Maria Melanie Martinez is a single mother of three: Mariel (age 20), Meryl (age 18), and Miller (age 16).
In the morning of Friday, January 13th Maria was found on the bathroom floor unconscious by her youngest daughter, Meryl. Although Meryl called the ambulance immediately, Maria had been alone for approximately 3 hours. After being rushed into the Emergency Room, family and friends were informed that Maria was diagnosed with a bi-lateral brain aneurysm and was in need of immediate medical attention.
Mariel, the oldest daughter, gave her consent for the first surgery to drain excess blood from her brain and to place metal coils into the left artery blood vessel of her brain. The surgery was successful in removing the clot on the left hemisphere of Maria’s brain. However, the next morning Mariel was informed that her mother had another stroke and had to be sent back into the operating room. Because of the excess brain swelling, they had to remove a part of her skull in order for her mother's brain to expand and prevent further damage.
After the long and grueling process, Maria is stable and is currently in a deep coma in the ICU. According to the neurologist assigned to Maria’s case, if and when Maria wakes up from her sleep, she will have difficulty with speech, memory, and body movement. Unfortunately, due to her situation, Maria must stay at a nursing home during her recovery process.
During these troubled times, my siblings and I have no stable source of income and are having difficulty to make ends meet without our mother's help. Therefore, these fundraising efforts are to help my family alleviate our financial burden in paying for medical expenses, medication, personal needs, a nursing home and other expenses.
