MADAME INFAMY: A NEW MUSICAL

6 years ago, Jp Vigliotti, Cardozie Jones and Sean Willis set out to do something incredible: resurrect the epic musical"”the kind of musical in which you leave with a piece of your heart still in your seat.

Our Story

Our musical, "Madame Infamy" tells the compelling story of Marie Antoinette, last Queen of France, and Sally Hemings, the American slave known for her intimate ties to President Thomas Jefferson. Two stories in one, unfolding alongside one another, Madame Infamy exposes the complexity of life for anyone born into a world where choice is a commodity. It is the journey of two girls growing into women, struggling to drown out the voices around them in hopes of finding the voice inside. In the end, both face the ultimate battle as their worlds come crashing in on them, and must race against time to protect the ones they hold most dear. With an epic score that takes contemporary musical theater and infuses it with elements of R&B and pop, Madame Infamy will leave you wondering: how will you be remembered?

The New York Musical Theatre Festival

Madame Infamy is the culmination of our life's work thus far, and now the New York Musical Theatre Festival(NYMF), the largest and most renowned venue for new and original musical theater, has offered us the opportunity to bring our musical to the New York audience in a fully-realized production this July 2014.

'"NYMF audiences will have a chance to experience a wide range of stories told in fresh and inventive ways for a contemporary audience, from a steam-punk inspired Hans Christian Andersen tale for a family audience, to an R&B infused depiction of the lives of Sally Hemings and Marie Antoinette," added Director of Programming Mary Kate Burke.'

We truly could not be more humbled and honored to have such a rare opportunity be present. However, producing theater is expensive. Producing theater in New York City: multiply that by a thousand.

What we are setting out to do

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to put toward making this production a reality. Sound like a lot? Well, it definitely is. But believe it or not, that amount will allow us to produce a show that is pretty bare bones! Here are just a few general items that we need to pay for:

-Venue (This year's venues are two blocks from Times Square!)
-Audition and Rehearsal Space
-General Management Company
-Casting Director
-Publicist
-Director
-Experienced Actors
-Musicians
-Set Designer and Materials
-Costumes/Wigs
-Lighting
-Microphones/Sound

The list goes on and on! We are not wealthy people, but between the three of us, we are rich beyond measure when it comes to the support of the people in our lives. Listed at the top of this page are "Perks". They are suggested donations associated with some fun rewards. However, there are no limitations on what you can contribute and anything you can do is very much appreciated!

The difference your contribution will make

This project is important in so many ways. First, your contribution is playing a monumental part in launching the next generation of musical theater. Think back to the musicals you love and grew up with. Most of them are the same ones we did! As artists, we are thrilled at the opportunity to pay forward so much of what has been given to us by those who showed us the power of theater.

Second, a great deal of what drives us is the opportunity to tell groundbreaking and thoughtful stories. Be it American slavery or French aristocracy, Madame Infamy takes what we think we know about history and challenges it! We are giving people who can no longer speak for themselves the chance for their stories to be reexamined and explored in a way that honors who they were as complex 3-dimensional people.

Lastly, the three collaborators on this project are all teachers. We met as teachers and have spent a decade building relationships and bonds with students throughout New York City. What better way to teach our students the value of being unstoppable and going after your dreams than by being the very example of that truth. Help us be that truth.

Despite the large sum we are shooting for, there is no amount of support too small. Every contribution is an event worth praise and celebration and we are so grateful for anything you are able to give.

Spread the Love

Help us get the word out! The great thing about this kind of fundraising is that there are no limits to how far we can reach! Know anyone who may be interested in making this dream a reality? Perhaps there is some connection you have that you feel may be useful! We'll never know unless you tell as many people about this project as you possibly can! So get on board and make some noise! Next stop: NYMF. Final destination: Broadway! Check out music, video and a full synopsis of the musical at MadameInfamy.com!

Sincerely,
Jp, Cardozie and Sean
