Wolfdog and Husky Assisted Therapy

Located in southern New Jersey, the Mushing Mission Sanctuary [ www.mmsanctuary.org ] is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the welfare of both the humans and the animals we serve.

Along with urban mushing, our work encompasses many animal-assisted therapy activities, from the arts to the outdoors to the building of human-animal bonds.

We seek to work with anyone in need, including, but not limited to, at-risk children, families in crisis, the physically disabled, the mentally ill, and veterans. Our canine focus is specifically on Huskies and Wolfdogs (Wolf Hybrids).

We are asking for help in getting our work off the ground. This includes the adoption of more dogs from Husky and Wolfdog rescues, building of containment and housing for our packs, obtaining a used vehicle, purchasing a small structure for a classroom/office/bathroom facility, and of course, providing food and veterinary care.

We have opportunities at this time to obtain a used jitney bus that would be perfect for transporting our dogs, equipment, and clients to events off property. And, a used mobile home has been offered that is just what we need for an office and bathroom, as well as providing classroom space. The vehicle will cost about $6,000 plus auto insurance. The office structure is being offered for $7,000.

Also, aside from adoption fees and veterinary costs, donations will help us to construct the many fenced areas needed for housing and training and provide pens for clients to work with the dogs. We will be purchasing equipment to be used in our animal-assisted therapy, including mushing rigs and harnesses. And, of course,  the necessary liability insurance is almost $2,00 per year.
