Midlothian High School War Memorial

Inspired by the memory of my grandfather, John Lance Geoghegan, who died in the Vietnam War when my mom was just a baby, I felt compelled to establish a memorial at Midlothian High School to honor all those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
While we continue to work on the details, the picture on this site is where the monument will reside (in front of the crate myrtle tree).
My mom and I researched and obtained the names of all Midlothian High School graduates dating back to the school's establishment in 1924. We then cross-referenced our graduates with the Virginia War Memorial and the national war databases, encompassing conflicts from WWII to present. In our efforts to ensure all Midlothian HS alumni are recognized we reviewed all files at the Chesterfield Historical Society and scoured the MHS yearbooks and scrapbooks.
As a result, we identified only one MHS graduate, Charles A. Ransom, who died April 27, 2011 in the Global War on Terror. Charles Ransom's name will appear at the top of the memorial and space is available below if needed.
While we were as thorough as possible, we understand it is possible we missed a Midlothian High School graduate who passed while serving our country. We hope the news of this memorial will encourage anyone knowing of any other graduate to contact the school so the name(s) can be added.

Our monetary target covers the cost of the memorial itself and light landscaping of the area (Phase 1). Any donation beyond our goal will go toward Phase 2, which will include more elaborate landscaping and a stone path to the memorial.
