Luke's HEROin ME

$11,496 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 139 people in 18 months
The Luke's HEROin ME Foundation was created by his friends and family with one goal in mind: stop the devastating heroin and opioid addiction and overdose epidemic. Too many families have lost sons, daughters, sisters, and brothers to this disease. We need you to be a part of the movement we have started. It will take a community wide effort to accomplish this goal.

The two pillars of our foundation are education and awareness. Our vision is to de-stigmatize addiction, help advance agendas that fall in line with our mission, and provide society with a strong foundation of prevention education. Find the HERO in YOU and help us save someone else's Luke.

In honor of Luke Johnson (May 12 1995 - May 17, 2017)

We want to personally thank each of you for your kind donations to the Luke’s HEROin ME Foundation. Your generous support financially and in solidarity with our mission means the world to us.

This has been a difficult several months, but with your help we have been able to advance the mission of de-stigmatizing addiction, raising awareness, and educating our community. There is still so much more to do, but we’d like to share with you what we have accomplished so far.

Since launching the Foundation in June 2017, we have raised almost $15,000. While most of our donations have come from individual donors, the Pasta Night at Pennwood middle school brought in an additional $3000. We can’t thank Pennwood PTO enough for thinking of our cause when planning this fun event.

The dollars we raise will go to the support of our mission to help save someone else’s Luke, who we miss each and every day. We’ve accomplished quite a lot with your help:

• Presented Luke’s story and the epidemic issue to the Pennsbury School board that lead to:
o Creation of an Opioid Task Force for the Pennsbury School District
o Development of a new curriculum to address the epidemic
o Formation of the relationship with the Carin Foundation to provide the expert support in the school district.
• Launched the GoFundMe Page, web site (LukesHEROinME.org) and Facebook page.
• Posted many articles and information on the opioid epidemic
• Presented the foundation on WBCB Radio with Yardley Mayor Chris Harding
• Congressman Fitzpatrick presented Luke’s story to the US Congress, which is now part of the permanent congressional record.
• Luke’s photo was used in a People Magazine article about the faces of addiction
• Several articles about our efforts have appeared in the Buck’s Courier times, The Levittown Patch and the Philadelphia Inquirer
• Philadelphia new stations (ABC and FOX) carried our story.
• Participation in a Social Media Study to help mine information to uncover at risk people.
• Started work on a youth focused digital animation and presentation to help explain opioid impact on the mind and body.

Importantly, what’s next?

On January 13th, 2018 at 4 pm we will be hosting a bowling fundraiser at Levittown Lanes. We will have bowling, prizes and pizza. We are asking for a $20 donation to bowl or a $35 donation to bowl and receive a tee shirt. You can sign up at LukesHeroinMe.org.

Over the summer, we are planning a larger outdoor event to help drive the foundation. We will be looking for volunteers for this fundraiser in the near future, and would love to have any and all of you involved in the planning and execution.

Please stay tuned for a follow-up email in the coming weeks. We will be providing all of our donors and supporters with a document that lists some very important facts and figures about addiction. Education is our greatest personal weapon against this pervasive epidemic, and we would like each of you to be equipped with the knowledge necessary to be the best ambassador for this important cause.

Again, thank you for your support! It means everything to us to have you at our back as we fight this battle to end addiction.
