The Harvard LowKeys China Trip!

$2,660 of $8,000 goal

Raised by 18 people in 5 months
The LowKeys are one of Harvard’s premiere a cappella groups, dedicated to making beautiful music, bringing together a family of students, and working to better the community through public works and volunteerism.

We are a diverse and unique group of eighteen undergraduates that appreciate the importance of sharing music with the wider community beyond Harvard. We have not only received distinctions at the highest level of a cappella competitions, but we have also devoted significant time towards volunteering with the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA). Every year, the LowKeys embark on a service tour to share our passion for performance with schools and local fixtures around the world.

This year, the LowKeys have been fortunate enough to have been invited to tour in China. We are particularly excited to raise interest and awareness in the art of a cappella while abroad. Our sponsoring organization has been generous enough to provide for accommodations during our stay in China, but the LowKeys still need to pay for airfare and visas in order to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The LowKeys are asking for funding in order to make this experience financially available for every single member of the group. We want to ensure that no one is excluded from participating in this incredible opportunity due to financial barriers.

Over ten days, we will visit, work with, and perform for free at several schools in Xi’an and Beijing, while simultaneously visiting many of the historically significant sites in those cities, including the Terracotta Army, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City. Members of the LowKeys will also be participating in workshops with students, local residents, and community members to increase their familiarity with a cappella and celebrate the power of music-making.

We expect to perform for audiences of more than one thousand people and hope to share our joy of music with as many individuals as we can. This trip to China presents an undeniably unique opportunity for group members and will be an experience we will cherish for years to come.
