Donation protected
James Wynne, Class of 1960, is among those scientists whose work led to the development of LASIK surgery. Listen and watch to hear why Jim is a strong supporter of enhancing the teaching of science in the Great Neck Schools.
Mary Cleave, Class of 1965, became a US Astronaut thanks in part to Mr. Love's inspiration. Listen to her personal comments.
The Lewis E. Love Memorial Science Education Award is created by his loving students and friends to memorialize and honor Mr. Love's long and inspirational teaching career in the Great Neck middle and high schools, both North and South.
GoFundMe will send you an e-acknowledgement saying that "Your payment will be received by Bruce Pacht" (the administrator of the campaign). Please note that ALL donations go not to Bruce but to the GN Public Schools which will acknowledge your gift with a personal letter for tax purposes. You may confirm this arrangement with the GN Schools District Clerk at (516) [phone redacted].
As does any on-line credit card-using site, GoFundMe charges fees (7.9% + $0.30 per transaction). To avoid these fees, you may send your check directly to Assistant Superintendent, GN Public Schools, 345 Lakeville Road, Great Neck, NY 11020. Be sure to put "Lewis E. Love Award" in the memo line of your check.
The GN North Class of 1963 created the program because Mr. Love, our class advisor, died on the eve of the class’s 50th reunion. Award funds must be spent on a project, equipment for a project, educational opportunity for students, or anything else that contributes to science education. The annual recipient is decided by a committee whose composition of teachers and students changes every year. Interest earned by the Award's fund over the previous year will determine the maximum available for the award the following year. The Award's endowment will be managed by the Great Neck Public Schools at no cost.
