Love for the Mitchell Family

My name is Lauren Berthelot and I have created this funding campaign to assist my cousin, Renee Louvierre-Mitchell and her family, with expenses due to a medical emergency. Renee is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of Munson hospital and is being treated for septicemia as a result of a staph infection. Sepsis is the body's overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and worse. Right now, the majority of Renee’s major organs are infected, primarily her lungs, and she is being kept sedated for her comfort. The treatment of sepsis requires ICU care and can take weeks or months depending on the level of infection. After treatment, most patients go to a rehabilitation facility and upon returning home many people need several additional months to feel strong and well again.

Renee is a full-time, master level social worker with a passion for helping persons with disabilities. She is married to her husband, Shannon Mitchell, a full-time manager, and together they have three gorgeous children, Alyssa age 20, Genna age 13, and Joseph age 3. This family is worried sick about their wife/mother and does not need the additional stress of financial strain that will come from the loss of Renee’s income as well as work that Shannon has to miss in order to be with Renee and care for their children. They are currently using all vacation and sick time that both Renee and Shannon have but that will not last long. The goal amount requested has been calculated to include the loss of Renee’s income, and any time that Shannon may need to be off work. Shannon will have sole access to the money donated.
