Jorge Emmanuelli Náter learned Afro-Puerto Rican music through transmission of knowledge from elder to apprentice; over the course of his trajectory, he has researched, performed and lived this musical tradition for over 35 years. "Los Ancestros" recording project encompasses this knowledge, experience, and passion and purposes to be the first recorded album to ground its orchestral prowess in little-known ancestral knowledge of music from Puerto Rico.

The "Los Ancestros" project draws on information passed on by knowledge bearers and represents musical traditions employed by the ancestors in order to uncover nearly lost elements of Afro-Puerto Rican Root Music including compositional structures, claves, rhythms, songs, and obscure instrumentation and fuses them with international and popular contemporary sounds of genres such as Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk and Gospel to create what may best be described as World Music fusion.

After years of hard work and thoughtful preparation, the “Los Ancestros” project is ready to move into the next phase of realization with the landmark recording production that will help introduce the world to African diasporic drum and percussive languages from Puerto Rico, amongst other significant contributions to the study of traditional music and world cultural practices.

In 2012, Jorge's 21+piece educational showcase / orchestra debuted as the first of its kind under the name Chicago Afro Puerto Rican Ensemble – CAPRE, to a sold-out audience at the Old Town School of Folk Music marking a clear and faithful evolution from traditional Caribbean music tendencies and establishing a legacy of endless possibilities for its orchestration – using ancestral knowledge as the driving foundation of this concept.

A host of fans, friends, and students had the opportunity to experience this amazing music live on his last historic showcase on November 25, 2015 at the Old Town School Of Folk Music in Chicago.

Your contribution in support of this musical and educational endeavor is a historic investment in the promulgation of Afro-Puerto Rican traditions to a global audience. Be part of the legacy!
