Twins - 1 micro preemie, 1 angel
Baby Link was born extremely early at 23 weeks old, over 4 months before his due date. He's fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.
But that's not the end of his story.
Link is an identical twin.
Due to a few complications, he was forced into delivery with little to no chance to live, but it was not in vain, he gave the doctors an option to do a rare procedure called Delayed Interval Delivery. This gave his smaller size brother a 2nd chance to stay in the his mothers womb to grow and have a chance at life.
But despite all odds Link lived after the birth and through the night, and now a week. He's fighting for his life, waiting for the day he gets to meet his brother on the outside.
We thank you and appreciate the donations which will go towards medical bills, medical equipment, and medical care.
More about Link
Born Tuesday, September 29th 2015.
Link is super small.
Born at only 500 grams (about 1lb 2oz) his mom's wedding ring could fit around his arms and legs. And her fingers are about the size of his arms.
More about Logan
Logan is still currently in his mother growing. Each day he says in there, he has a better chance of survival. He was much smaller then Link because of a complication called Twin to Twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition that can lead to death of both babies if not taken care of.
More About them Both
Link and Logan had been given a week to live at 21 weeks unless surgery was performed for their TTTS. They had a very successful surgery that saved them, but then pPROM cause an early delivery, robbing them of a fair chance to continue growing. But because of the surgery, they no longer technically shared the same blood flow through the placenta. It was lasered to give them each a dedicated blood flow. A requirement of DID to work is that each baby needs their own placenta.
As we transition to home we may remain quiet but please understand we are looking forward to holding and spending lots of time with Logan, our older kids, and family.
Thank you so much for following Logan's journey! We wouldn't be here without your support! This past weekend we spent many hours putting together the house in preparation of Logan's imminent arrival. We appreciate everyone's support and good thoughts.
Logan still has many hurdles to over come. He passed his hearing test. Right now Logan has stage 1 ROP in both eyes. Labs to watch and check on his liver and kidney functions. Also, has to have hernia surgery sometime in the near future. Surgeon is hoping for when he is bigger and older gestationally. It's the same surgeon who did Link's surgery. We will have follow-ups too. All things we will continue to watch and address as we take those next steps.
I'm so proud of him! He enjoys his bottles and can pace himself fairly well. The other favorite thing of his is a paci. Loves to suck on those when he is alert!
Thank you for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers! Cannot wait to bring him home to be reunited!
It's been a while since an update. Logan is on vapotherm now, it's air cannula. Two weeks ago he got sick with another infection. This time it was in his blood stream. Fortunately it was caught quickly and antibiotics were started right away. Though he had to get the meds through an iv as his picc line was pulled earlier that week. When he did get sick they also did a lumbar puncture. Poor guy. He was on his medicines for a while too.
His current issues are feeding, respiratory, and hernias. His feeds were switched to half breast milk half formula. He hated his formula, now he is full breast milk. The goal is to find a formula that works for him.
For respiratory, he needs to come down on his support but the feeding throwing up is an added stress to his breathing. The goal is for him to grow and get bigger with his feeds. So to help his respiratory system he is on continuous feeds. He started a diuretic to reduce inflammation in his body this week.
Logan has two hernias in his lower abdomen area. The dr has reduced them but they have come in and out. Now we are watching them. Keeping a close eye on them as well.
He is around 3lbs 3oz as he started a diuretic and formula both which contributed to the loss of weight.
Overall he is growing, loves cuddles? and his paci. Hopefully we can get him feeling better and bigger for the next steps. Love to all! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
Now he is being treated as if he has pneumonia which is likely given the situation. We are thankful his picc line wasn't pulled when it was going to be. He is on the mend again and mom is getting to kangaroo care him again. Currently he is 1050grams or 2lbs 5oz. His hair has been getting ever so long.
Our family is very appreciative for all the messages and support for both boys. We've been honoring Link in different ways and very grateful for everyone who has reached out to our family. We welcome the cards, messages, and momentos that our support network has sent. Thank you!
After kangaroo care Logan had a few respiratory ups and downs. Near his 8pm cares the Dr. let me know he had a urinary tract infection. He was starting antibiotics shortly.
Hoping for a stable night, that nothing grows in his blood culture, and he feels better as soon as possible.
His next labs are scheduled for Thursday.
I pray for you guys every night. And I always constantly ask the nurses how you guys are doing and holding up, I was your neighbor across the hall from you guys, Antepartum, going on 14weeks being at the evergreen hospital, still here, I got here at 25 weeks pregnant, .. Currently 37 weeks pregnant here at evergreen, with medical issues going on with my baby. It's a lot to go through its been tough. I would love To say more or talk more about it. These last couple nights I've been praying for you guys. I would love to stay in contact with you guys! I'm in room 176 also have a Facebook page as well. You guys have been strong ! Prayers to you! You guys have done grate !
My heart is breaking for your loss. I am crying with you. Im so sorry Link didnt make. I will keep praying for Logan to grow stronger and foe your family to heal. I know Link is in th fathers arms. God bless you all and may his presence bring you comfort and peace.
My baby's were born July 20th from twin to twin. Also 23 weeks. If you would like to talk or just need someone to listen please send me a private message or go to Cooper's fight. I can't donate money cause we are sadly still in the NICU with one of our babies.
it's amazing how medicine advances so quickly. I used to many for a pair of twin girls who were born at 25 weeks because of TTTS and there was never the option of a prenatal surgery for them. On a different note, have you or anyone considered putting both boys in the same incubator? I have heard of that being helpful for twins. It's similar to kangaroo care.
How is handsome little Logan doing
Oh wow he has plumped up! :) don't stress the hernias too much- they are common for preemie boys. He looks wonderful you guys ♥ hang in there
My husband and I think about your family all the time and keep you in our prayers. Hang in there and rejoice in the small steps forward even then they lead to a couple steps back. Everyday your little one will amaze you! Mine still do to this day.
I have been following your story and praying for you and your little ones. Sending up huge prayers for Link, Logan, you and for the rest of your family. My heart is breaking for your loss, and I am wishing you comfort and continued strength. I was in the Evergreen Antepartum unit for 9 weeks earlier in the year, and then in the NICU for 6 weeks with many rollercoaster days and weeks with our boys.
I am the mother of 22 yr. Old identical girls. During the time of my pregnancy, a dear friend I worked with was pregnant with identical boys. So sadly, they succumbed to TTTS. To know that there is now a procedure to correct this anomoly, warms my heart to no end. My friend would be so happy for you, as am I. Praise God for medical advances. I know you all have a very long road ahead of you. I will pray for your family, and especially for tiny baby Link and brother Logan. A special gift you have been blessed with....prayers to the doctors, nurses and all caregivers who will fight for the lives of these little ones, entrusted to their care and medical expertise. Would love to continue following your journey, to the ultimate outcome of the boys being together again in life. If you choose to provide updates, would love to know where to follow. If not, privacy respected and completely understood. If I can help in any way, please contact me through FB. Twin families "get it". Sincerely, Nancy Baker
