Laurier Robotics - World Champs

Spende geschützt

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier Robotics team is in its fourth season. We are a team part of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics. Our program, in its fourth year, includes 25 students from grades 9 to 12. These students have developed skills in engineering, management, design, programming, and construction.

Sir Wilfrid Laurier C.I is an ethnically diverse TDSB school. We draw students from a multitude of backgrounds including Chinese, South Asian, Caribbean and European. Your support will benefit these students in many ways, now and in the future. Your involvement will influence our students in their academic success and life-long skills such as problem solving and team building. The FIRST Robotics Canada Survey conducted in April, 2010 shows that 88% of students, who participate in FIRST have a better idea on what they wish to do in terms of post-secondary education. Your help will allow us to sustain this life changing program for our students.

In our first year, our team competed in the Greater Toronto East Regional, our team did very well given our Rookie status. Our team received the most prestigious award for a Rookie team – the Rookie All Star Award which celebrates the rookie team that exemplifies a strong partnership effort and implements the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology. This award enabled our team to go to the FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, MO. Our team was one of only a handful of rookie teams at the world championships. Due to the financially demanding nature of robotics, we greatly appreciate your financial support. In appreciation of your support, we would like to recognize your sponsorship through the use of recognition on team uniforms, robots, commercials before our YouTube videos, as well as advertising space on our website. This year our team competed at the Durham College and Ryerson University District events, ranking fourth out of approximately 40 teams at both events, making it to the semi-finals and loosing to the eventual winners in the semi-finals. It has been an inspirational season thus far for our students, and recently, we have been invited to the World Championships, which just to register is $5000 USD. Hence, your financial assistance is really appreciated, and would inspire our students in pursuing post secondary education in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields.

Any amount helps, and anything you are able to donate is utmost appreciated by our students, and we thank you in advance for your consideration to help these students compete with a machine they've worked on together at the highest level. Thank you once again!
