Larry Schulin's Medical Fund

Donation protected
On December 10, 2017 Larry Schulin of Tomball, Texas (previously lived in Houston), had a terrible accident when he fell through his attic ceiling to the floor below,  while putting  away Christmas decoration boxes.  In the fall, he shattered his L2 vertabrae, had to have his back fused with rods and pins, ruptured the dura mater in his spinal column and had to endure over six hours of surgery. He is paralyzed from the waist down and his prognosis is bleak as far as him ever walking again without assistance. Occasionally his foot will move but that is due to a muscle spasm, however he cannot feel his foot or anything below his waist.

He is currently at TIRR Memorial Hermann at the Woodlands,  and will be there approximately 4 months for rehab and to learn how to live with his disability. Despite everything, he tries to maintain his sense of humor despite the physical and emotional pain he endures daily.

His friends are asking for your help and support for ongoing medical bills. Please show your love and support to  Larry and Cynthia and their family to help relieve some of their financial burdens, but mostly to show that people do appreciate his years of service as a Houston Firefighter, and to show that you are emotionally supporting them through this ordeal and they are not alone.

Larry and Cynthia are caring parents who are helping support their son while  he is a fulltime student and they also help with their grandson.   Larry graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Houston in 1975.  Please share with  fellow Reagan Bulldogs (our school was renamed recently to Heights High).  In high school, Larry was always a very nice, polite and respectful guy.

Larry was in the ROTC and Fire Administration which was instrumental in him becoming a Houston Firefighter. We remember in 1975 Larry was awarded a heroism plaque during a high school assembly for saving a man from a house fire, but unfortunately his wife had already died in the fire. The next morning Larry rushed to donate blood for two of his classmates that were involved in a terrible car accident and both had lost a great deal of blood.

Larry served the Houston community for years as a Houston Firefighter,  and served as Sr. Captain of the Houston Fire Department before retiring.

He and his family have never asked for a handout in their life and that is why we didn’t ask his permission but felt they were most deserving.  After we set it up, we informed his wife Cynthia and Larry about this fund.  They were humbled but appreciative. There will be many uncovered medical expenses and burdens on his family because of this accident.  Any donation, no matter how small is much appreciated. Thank you for your continued support and prayers!  His friends are still praying for a miracle that he can walk without assistance.
