Restore the Heart of the House

Donation protected
The Loring Greenough House was constructed in 1760 by Commodore Loring and owned by the Greenough family from 1783 until 1924. The Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club purchased the house in 1924 and has been its steward ever since. In 2008, the club articulated a vibrant new community-oriented role for the House as a center for social, cultural, historical, and educational activities. The house, sitting on an acre in the city of Boston, is a landmark on the Historic Register and is treasured by those who come to tour the elegant rooms, rent the house for weddings, or picnic on the lawn.

In early 2018 we are planning a renovation of our beloved kitchen - installing new cabinetry and returning an original soapstone sink to its rightful place. All work will be sensitive to the historic building fabric of the House.

Please help us restore the heart of the house to its former glory!

Rendering of the proposed renovations:
In this rendering, the Victorian soapstone sink has been re-installed and a tall cupboard has been constructed - respecting the historic elements while adding to the functionality of the room.

The kitchen is not only a popular stop on docent-led tours, but it is also a vital place for private events, weddings, meetings and retreats which generate income used to help preserve and maintain the house.

We are hoping to raise $26,000 which will fund: our construction costs including materials and labor to build our new custom cabinetry, a fresh coat of paint in a historically appropriate color, the reinstallation and plumbing for our soapstone sink, partial restoration of the original pine board flooring, and all necessary permits and fees.

The Loring Greenough House is preserved and cared for by a board made up entirely of volunteers. We can't complete this project without your help.

As a way to say THANK YOU for supporting this important renovation, we are offering a number of tokens of gratitude, please read about them to the right and below.

Thank you!
