Clean up crew Kelz had a stroke and needs our help

Kelly Fletcher (Kelz) is an award-winning environmental warrior, protector of the Southport Seaway and founder of Clean up Crew – Environmental divers. She has given much to our ocean, raised funds for Dive for Cancer, and now she needs our help.

On Dec 3rd, two days after her 36th birthday she suffered an Ischaemic Stroke that affected the right side of her frontal lobe, causing loss of function to the entire left side of her body. This was a shock to all of us, least of all Kelz. When you're young you think you're invincible. You never think that at 36 you could ever experience something so debilitating. Young stroke survivors are common but they are an unseen part of our society.

Kelz is a champion and is already diving deep into her pool of resilience to recover. She has managed to get herself discharged from hospital and home just in time for Christmas.  However, rehab will be a long process  as Kelz will have to work super hard over the next 12 months, if she is to regain the full use of her left side. Although she has regained some use of her left side, Kelz requires full-time care, costly medications, transport to rehabilitation, ongoing medical interventions and more.

Unfortunately, a week after her hospitalisation, Kelz’s husband ChrisTopher had his work contract cancelled. Topher was the sole wage earner for the household. With no income, the pressure of rising financial stress is palpable.

Can you donate to help pay Kelz’s bills? As a friend of Kelz and admirer of all she has done to protect our environment, I invite you to join me by giving Kelz and Chris some Christmas cheer. This can be our way of saying thank you to someone who has really worked hard for so many in our community, and recognise her mighty efforts in helping to remove over FIVE TONNES of debris from our waterways!

Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. Stroke kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. Together we can help Kelz through her courageous journey to regain her former mobility and good health.

Please help Kelz’s stroke recovery by donating and sharing this call for support.  Imagine the shock of suffering a stroke and then having your husband lose his job because he is your primary carer...

Together we can help Kelz through her courageous journey to regain her former mobility and good health. Thank you.
