Kelsey's MDiv/Theological Education
Donation protected
This campaign is for my wife, Kelsey. Kelsey has a desire, a talent, a gift, an extraordinary way of crafting words, sentences, phrases, speech, and a presence that is...well, hard to put into words. And for those of you who know her, you know what I am talking about and the impact Kelsey embodies.
Throughout her life Kelsey has pushed through social stereotypes and prejudices that say that she cannot and should not pursue theological education that would put her in position to share her being that is so wisely shared in words. Thankfully, she has also had the support around her that has encouraged her to keep being herself and to pursue her desires, desires that naturally break through and cannot and should not be held back. Her parents told her to keep writing and to pursue theological education in college even though her denomination did not support it. Her friends, professors, colleagues, mentors, spiritual directors have heard and felt the weight that her words carry and have also encouraged her to pursue more education.
For fives years now I have had the privilege to see Kelsey grow and struggle while discerning where to go with the Word that naturally lives within her. I have also been privileged to listen to and receive those words. Kelsey supported my theological education for two years, watching me grow into who I am and learn how to craft words. Throughout that time I saw her gift grow and impact others when she got to preach to and commune with a small church community. As well I got to hear what it was like to sit next to and commune with others who were dying or were grieving the death of a loved one as Kelsey spent a year as a Chaplain resident in a local hospital.
These years have only opened my eyes more to the person Kelsey is. And I want nothing more than to see her be herself, without holding back, and with no huge barriers in her way. I am campaigning to raise the tuition money for Kelsey to earn her Masters in Divinity, so that she can more readily and accessibly share her caring, supportive, inspiring words with a society that needs more honest and vulnerable words of life. I am asking for your help because, for the sake of transparency, we already have $45,000 in student debt to pay from my years of education. Kelsey (and I) neither feels comfortable nor responsible doubling that amount and therefore questions whether or not to pursue her theological education. However, I want to see her in that cap and gown.
I cannot think of a better way of Kelsey earning her degree than with the support of so many friends and family who know the extraordinary and Divine words and presence she has to share. Such encircling support and encouragement embodies the Kingdom of God. Thank you for any contribution given. We are grateful beyond words!
Grace and Peace,
Jon Plummer
