UGA Fiji Support Fund, Ltd
Donation protected
The UGA Fiji Support Fund, Limited was started in 2017. A 501(c) is being explored.
We seek $100,000.00 to fund this organization. 100 donations of $1000.00 or more by brothers and other concerned people will meet our goal.
PURPOSE
This organization was founded because of the awareness of graduate brother suicide, substance abuse, clinical depression, family, professional or financial problems. There are UGA Phi Gam brothers with problems who do not seek support or do not have support and have fallen through the cracks. We seek to identify and help these individuals.
The purpose of the organization is to prevent suicide, provide psychiatric/psychological counseling, legal counseling, financial counseling /support and other professional counseling as needed.
If you choose not to give financially, please pledge your time and provide pro bono service such as: medical, legal, psychological, dental, contracting and financial.
RESPONSIBILITY
We beleive that individual responsibility is essential to good mental health and high-level functioning. Anyone receiving support from counseling or financial aid will be required to contribute their time to the organization in assisting others in need. Helping others in need is a great way for those receiving support to feel a sense of contribution and value.
BOARD
The initial board is comprised of:
Henry Day, Esq, Jonathan A. Jarman, MD, Steve Newton, Sam Richwine, MD, Bill Seanor, DVM and Clay Stoddard.
All Board members and service providers give their time and professional service pro bono.
ACTIVITY
The first action of the organization was an intervention for a UGA Phi Gam graduate that lead to placement of this individual in a 6 week rehab stint for alcoholism. During rehab, the Board is doing an evaluation of the individual's financial, emotional and living needs.
The Board has provided pro bono legal, medical, financial advice and support to this individual.
We believe that this intervention prevented this brother from going down a path that may have ultimately lead to hospitalization or his demise.
The Board hopes that the success of this organization will serve as a template for other Phi Gam chapters and then spread to other non Phi Gam fraternities. National is aware of the Board's actions.
Thank you.
