Not everyone gets a second chance at life.
He has always been a happy go lucky type of a guy with a very positive attitude all the time. He’s always been the first to offer a lending hand, shoulder to cry on, and compassionate towards others. Juned is an active member is his community. He coaches kids in the fundamentals of basketball, he volunteers at his local mosque, and even helps his family at their local business. If there was something you needed, he would find the time between his school and work to be there for whatever you needed.
Five years ago, Juned made a split-second decision that he does not regret one bit. On Father’s Day on June 2014, Juned spent the day with family and friends at a farmhouse. Towards the end of the day, he was eager to watch the NBA Finals, so he went inside the house to watch them along with the family friend’s eight-year-old son. Knowing the house was under construction, they were given instructions to avoid those areas and remain in the living room. After the conclusion of the game, Juned started messaging his friends discussing what they had just seen. From the corner of his eye, he noticed the eight-year kid head towards the kitchen and open the sliding glass door, which was under construction. Immediately the screen door fell out and the kid started to fall out of the house. Juned sprinted off the couch to secure the kid. He got there a little late, so he decided to jump after him. Juned ended up catching the poor child but hit the floor quickly on his back. His head and back hit the concrete at the same time. As the family rushed over to see what happened, all Juned said was, “I can’t feel my legs.” Both were rushed to the hospital via a chopper.
At the hospital Juned was diagnosed with paraplegia. He suffered a spinal cord injury at the T9 level, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He’s been going to doctor visits, physical therapy, and even got a personal trainer to come to his home for the past five years. Unfortunately, there has not been much progress in his condition. Since the injury, Juned endured many changes. Having to accept the fact that he could no longer be the one to help because he is the one that needs it now. This was probably the hardest for him. Not being able to walk he had to learn how to do things independently just like when he was little. He’s had to learn how to dress himself, get around without his legs. He is still struggling to use the restroom independently. He no longer could get up and go to the basketball court and put shots up on his own. Regardless of how things turned out, Juned kept a strong resolve. He has remained optimistic and motivated to better himself. Juned re-enrolled in college, got a full-time job, and starting coaching basketball again. There’s nothing that can keep strong-willed Juned from reaching his goals. You will still find him moving around in his wheelchair with a smile on his face touching the hearts of many.
A few months ago, Juned heard about The Stem Cell Institute in Panama. This institute works with many cases of spinal cord injuries and have observed great results. They provide stem cells specifically made for Juned along with physical therapy to help move him at least enough to help him use the bathroom facilities independently. Great things come with a huge cost. The stems cells treatment is costly, and we need your assistance.
All funds you provide will go towards the cost for his treatment. With your help he might be able to be independent again, at least enough to be mobile and take care of his personal hygiene. On behalf of Juned and his family, we appreciate the love, prayers, and support you all contribute. Let’s try and help get Juned back on his feet so that he can be a bigger part of our lives.
