Julie's Fight for Cancer

$13,525 of $50,000 goal

My name is Kelley Galatoire, and I am asking you today to help financially assist my friend Julie Fox and her 12-yr old son, Sammy.  I've known Julie since college, and she was a bridesmaid in my wedding.  Julie is the kind of person who lights up a room when she walks into it.  She's always smiling and/or laughing and I am in awe of her strength.

Julie is a single mother, raising Sammy by herself since he was a baby without assistance. All Sammy has ever known is his mom being sick with cancer. In Sept of 2012, she was finally diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a tumor that was larger than a softball in her throat that had worked its way into her chest cavity by the time it was found. She was working for a small company that didn't have short-term disability, and had a $5000 deductible +30%. She has had to meet deductible every year for the last four years, because the cancer left her with an autoimmune allergy disorder that completely debilitated her skin. After seeing 18 different specialists in the Houston medical center, she finally turned to alternative sources that were not covered by insurance, therefore driving up her out-of-pocket expenses. She has drained her 401(k) and sold her home to pay for medical bills, and she still hasn't even scratched the surface of what she owes. It is still close to a staggering $50,000 and no one had previously ever offered a GoFundMe account to help her with the massive bills, plus all the debt collected for unpaid days taken during recovery. This is all before her new diagnosis this year.

This February, Julie was diagnosed with Stage III lymphoma which has metastasized to the left rib and again, has a $5000 deductible +30%. She works for a very small company that does not offer short-term disability so she is still trying to work, but it has become very difficult with her current condition.  She has already borrowed against and used up all of her sick and vacation time for this year.

After adding up Julie’s medical expenses for the first cancer diagnosis in 2012, plus this recent lymphoma diagnosis and current medical bills, Julie has accumulated even more debt.  In addition, she must stop working soon in order to have the strength to get through treatment, and this will result in her losing an income.  If you tack on living expenses for her and her son for the next year, plus estimated medical costs for the future, Julie will need well over $185,000 to cover her for the next 12 months just to break even.

Julie’s spirit and strength are a force that I have never witnessed before. She is a fighter and she will beat this.  I know that there are extremely generous people in this world; they are just looking for the right person and the right cause, to give to.

First and foremost I ask for your prayers.  If you feel led, would you please consider a financial gift?  No amount is too small.  I promise you, Julie will be forever grateful and you will be giving her and her son a chance to be overcomers.  Through all of this, she has never lost her faith in God and continues to do as much ministry and outreach as she possibly can in her debilitated state. I know that God will bless her with the resources she needs to get out of debt and to cover her expenses while she's recovering from cancer again.  Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.  Together we can make a difference!

God bless you!

Julie is home from the hospital and tolerated her 2nd chemo pretty well. She will have a pet scan in a few weeks & that will determine when they begin harvesting her stem cells & move forward with the transplant. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. If you feel led to give, please click on the link to donate. Thank you so much for all those who have donated so far. Julie is so thankful for your generosity. God bless you!

Dear friends,
Unfortunately, Julie's lymphoma is back. She is facing her 3rd cancer battle in 5 yrs. This battle will render her unable to work and she does not have disability through her employer. Each cancer battle has left her with a $5000 deductible and max out of pocket over $10,000. She needs our help more than ever now that she is facing more expenses on a reduced income!

Julie has finished her first round of very aggressive chemo reasonably well, but it's about to get even harder. She still has at least one more aggressive chemo and then one round of extremely aggressive chemo - they call the 'bazooka' level -to prep her for a stem cell transplant. We are praying she can be her own donor to minimize complications, but her autoimmune still raises concern of rejection. Julie is adopted, which greatly reduces her chances of a 10 point match. Either way, she has a hard road of recovery ahead.

If all goes well, she will have the transplant mid-June, and the doctor said the recovery will be between 12-24 months if there are no complications.

Above all, please lift up Julie in prayer. If u feel led to give, please don't hesitate to donate here. Your prayers and gifts will be such a blessing. Thank you.

By the healing power of Jesus, the physical aspect of Julie's successful cancer battle is almost over! She has a final PET scan tomorrow confirming that further treatment will not be necessary. I'm asking you to please lift her up in prayer that ALL cancer is gone & that she is completely healed. We praise God for His healing power over her life!
The financial impact, however, still continues for Julie. Her insurance company recently informed her that they will be denying payment of $5400 for a pain management procedure that they had already authorized. She is trying to appeal this, but her expenses keep piling up. Many people have already been so generous, and for you all, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your financial blessings. If you have not already donated, would you please consider praying today & asking God if that's something He wants you to do. Julie has so many medical expenses and being a single mom makes paying these off very difficult. Any amount would be a huge blessing for her. Thank you again for your love, prayers and support. This and the love of the Lord has helped pull her through to victory!
