Juan & El Compadre Family

$43,235 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 722 people in 19 months
Created July 30, 2017
On July 29th, Juan was doing what he always does, taking care of someone else.  This time, it was his mother who was being robbed.  While trying to protect her, he was shot in the chest and is now fighting for his life.  This wonderful family has given us all so much.  Their hospitality is second to none and over the last year their troubles have been many (losing their husband/father, the never-ending road construction that's hurt their business and now this).   The El Compadre family is the foundation of what's good about Shreveport.  Please show your support and let them know they are loved (every dollar counts).

We just visited Juan Zuniga. He looks great and has such a positive attitude. It was inspiring to hear him talk about his progress. If you have time go visit this fine, young man. He's at Promise Heath on Irving, room 234.

Here is a recent article on Juan from Gemma. He continues to improve but is still in the hospital. Also, the SPD reported that they've not yet found the criminals who did this.

I continue to be amazed at the generosity of my home town. BRAVO SHREVEPORT!! Thank you to everyone who donated. Gemma and I just set-up the transfer to take care of Juan's bills.

This is her latest update (#9) from Facebook:

Today has been a big day for Juan! The doctors were considering a tracheotomy to help him breathe but decided it was no longer necessary because he is now inflating his lung on his own! His x-ray went from showing a black mass in his chest to showing an inflated lung! It seems as if all he needed was a little help with clearing all the gunk that had gathered in his lung from the doctors because he is not needing as much help from the ECMO machine as before.

Juan will remain sedated for the rest of the night but will be awake tomorrow. With that being said, please don't try to come up and visit just yet; only close family members are allowed to be back with him.

Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, and continuous support! We are so grateful for everyone who has reached out to our family! Much love!

Thank you all for your donations!!! The outpouring of support is amazing and a testament to how loved the El Compadre family is!!!

I spoke with Gemma Zuniga today. We will meet this week to determine the best way to deliver your generous donations. I want you all to know that every penny raised will go to directly to Juan Zuniga and his family. As soon as they determine how they want the distribution handled, I will update all donors in an appropriate way being mindful of the Zuniga family's privacy. Should anyone have any questions, feel free to send me an email.
