Josh's Kidney Autotransplant
Donation protected
Gosh, where do I start? Most people know that Josh has a rare kidney disease called Loin pain Hematuria Syndrome (LPHS) that causes his kidney to bleed resulting in spasms in his ureter that feels like a kidney stone is passing when there is no stone. He is in constant agony. After almost 5 years of multiple procedures, doctor appointments, 13 ER visits, 3 hospital stays, and puzzled doctors we searched for answers. We researched a ton and found LPHS. It felt like we were reading a story about Josh's life. We ended up at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and a diagnosis of LPHS, but no solution to the problem. They informed us there weren't any successful treatment options. We found a doctor in Wisconsin that is well versed in LPHS, and has had tremendous success with a procedure called a Renal Autotransplant. This has been tried in the past will little success but Dr. Redfield has a different technique that is giving 80-90% of his patients pain relief. Josh has had all the testing needed and surgery is scheduled for July 2nd!
This is a huge surgery where he will have his left kidney removed to sever all nerves, then transplanted back in his body in a different position to eliminate his pain.
As you can imagine, this will be an expensive journey. In 5 years, Josh has met his out of pocket max each year, he's lost wages from illness, and travel for appointments and testing has been costly. We also had a small fire in our attic in 2015, the hail storms hit Wylie twice in 2016 costing us 2 deductibles equaling $5,000, and with my complications delivering Ivy we met my out of pocket max in 2017 as well. Despite being frugal, and making smart financial decisions this has drained us. It's hard to put pride aside, but we just can't swing this without help. We have calculated the costs of flights (4 trips total), hotel stays, rental cars, 2 weeks no pay for me as I am out of PTO and even more lost wages (he works mainly on commison) for Josh during his 2 month recovery. Conservatively, the cost altogether will be $25,000. If you feel inclined to contribute and help us get his life (and honestly, mine and Ivy's too) back it would be a tremendous help! We are so blessed with a fantastic support system and many people have encouraged us to start a GoFundMe. So here we are...Please feel free to share, as we need as much help as we can get. If you made it to the end THANK YOU FOR READING!
