John Reinard's Medical Fund

On September 16th, 2016, John was on his way home after watching the Bills game at a local restaurant.  He had stopped at a red light where he was rear-ended by a drunk driver who fled the scene. John ended up in the ICU with a broken left arm, broken & fractured ribs, fracture spine, and an incomplete spinal cord injury.  During the first two weeks after the accident, John went through 3 surgeries to fix his arm, ribs, and back with metal rods and plating.  Once released from the ICU, he spent a month in the Acute Rehab unit of ECMC and was transferred to subacute-rehab at a long-term care facility. John’s left arm, ribs and surgery site have healed as expected, but the trauma of the impact to his spine has persisted. The doctors have informed us that they won't know the extent of the damage to John’s spine for 18 - 24 months from the date of his accident.  John’s injury has immobilized him from the abdomen down.  He is relearning the basics of mobility so he can become independent.  He has regained some feeling and movement to his stomach and legs, but there is still much more progress that needs to be made.

John is nearing the end of his treatment at the subacute facility, and he will soon return home.  At home, we will continue with nursing visits, in home physical & occupational therapy and eventually outpatient therapy, where we hope to rehabilitate his legs so one day he may be able to walk again.  John must also learn to become independent via a wheelchair while at home.  We need to make modifications to our home so that John can gain his independence and continue to improve his health and well-being.
Currently, we have run through our no-fault policy and maxed out our health insurance coverage for inpatient rehab. We are working on putting a wheelchair lift on the house, so he can come home within the next couple of weeks.  All donations will go towards paying off medical bills and modifications to our home.
John is a father, son, husband, friend to all, and extremely hard-working individual. The accident, subsequent surgeries, and life change has been very hard on John & our family. The future of John’s health and recovery remain vastly unknown. We were hoping not to have to raise funds, but after 5 months of recovery, we are asking for your help to try and make John's future as bright as possible.
