A fighting chance, that what Johannes has and he needs your help!

On August 2nd, my dear friend Amber's husband, Johannes was admitted to UMC hospital in Lubbock, TX in a great deal of pain.

After a myriad of tests and scans, it was discovered that he was suffering from a life threatening intestinal blockage. Johannes was taken into surgery on August 3rd, where a large portion of his lower left intestinal tract was removed, along with a large mass and lymph nodes. The surgeon was fairly confident at that point that what they were dealing with was cancer.

Today, on their son Carson's 10th birthday, they found out that Johannes does indeed have Stage 3c Colon Cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes.

There is a chance that Johannes may get to go home from the hospital today, but he has a long road ahead of him, as do Amber, Carson and Callie.

The number one thing that needs to happen now is for Johannes to heal enough from his surgery that he can begin his Chemo treatment, which is currently expected to last 6 months (12 sessions).

What can you do to help?

1. PRAY! Pray for complete and total healing for Johannes.
2. Pray for Amber and Carson and Callie
3. DONATE - As many of you know, Johannes and Amber make a living as so many do, as artists. Unfortunately, this also means that they do not have health insurance. Johannes is going to be unable to play at the rate he and Amber were - it's just physically impossible. This means that their income is going to be very little.
4. Meal Assistance! If you know Amber and Johannes, please offer to send meals to the family. That is one less thing for them to think about. I know gift cards to restaurants would also be appreciated. I will work with Amber's mom to set up a meal train and get that posted on here as well.

On behalf of Amber, Johannes and the kids, thank you! Every single cent adds up and will be so appreciated.

From Johannes:

I wanted to share an update just in time for Christmas. Things are going well overall. Most importantly, mom is recovering extremely well. Cold, rainy weather and side effects from chemotherapy have kept me indoors most of the time the past month. I finally felt up to running again yesterday, and it felt great, although it was cold.
My treatment on December 4th was reduced to 75%, but the side effects have been more unpleasant this time. I think I will have recovered enough to be ready for my next treatment on the 29th, but doctors want to make sure they don’t overdo it, since I’m technically cancer free, and there is a risk of permanent nerve damage in my fingers from the chemotherapy. I’m taking one day and one session at a time. Health insurance is in place from January 1st, so I will be able to return home to Lubbock and continue treatment when we decide the time is right.
The picture is of Grenaa Church a few days ago. It was built in 1300-something but restored about 150 years go. Today we have just 7 hours of daytime.
Merry Christmas. Peace and blessings to all!

Hi Everyone - I just spoke with Johannes and he will be seeing his oncologist on Thursday. His first chemo is scheduled for next Wednesday. He is in great spirits and we are thankful things are moving forward.

The benefit concert this past Sunday was incredible! Blessed beyond words by all those who attended and by the talented folks who pulled the event together! Beautiful performances by our dear friends - our music family. Super thankful Johannes will be able to see the concert as well, thanks to our friend, Eric Nelson for filming!

Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers!!

Carson & Callie are having difficulty with their Far being away... please continue to keep them in your prayers as well.

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to write a quick update on how Johannes is doing. He saw his regular doctor again today for a follow up appointment, his blood work looks good! They are adding an additional medication to keep his blood pressure in check and got his flu shot as well. We are still waiting on the referral to go through for oncology and gastro. He does have his insurance card now, so that should speed up the process. Though it is hard to be in wait mode, we are thankfuly he has this time to enjoy visiting with family while he is feeling good and a bit of respite before starting his treatment.

We've been able to chat via FaceTime nearly every day, which is a huge blessing! The kiddos get to talk to him after school every day, it certainly helps getting to see his face & hear his voice! The kids have also gotten to visit with their Aunt Christine & Uncle Fin some, which has been awesome!

Here at home, they will be having a benefit concert for Johannes at the Cactus Theater on Sunday, October 14th at 7pm. There is an incredible line of of musicians & friends who have donated their time and talents to putting this event together and we are so grateful! If you are interested in attending the concert or would like to find out more information about the event, you can visit: http://cactustheater.com/events-calendar/

As always, thank you for your support, encouragement, kind thoughts & prayers for Johannes and our family.

Love,
Johannes, Amber, Carson & Callie

Hi Everyone,
I got to have a nice long visit with Johannas via FaceTime this morning (he is 7 hrs ahead of us over there). He was able to see the doctor this morning and got labs done. The doctor has made the referral to oncology and once Johannes receives his insurance card things will move forward quickly. He will be going to see his ostomy nurse in the morning so he can get set up with the supplies he will need going forward. He will go back for a follow up with his doctor next Friday, once all the lab results have been received. He liked his doctor very much and feels good about how things are moving along. He has been able to visit with both his mom & dad since arriving in Grenaa and is staying with his sister, Christine & husband, Finnbjorn. They have both been so wonderful and gone above and beyond to help, we are so thankful! Johannes is feeling good and in great spirits! His doctor has encouraged him to exercise regularly (brisk walking) and stay healthy to be strong for chemo.

He's excited to start playing the melodica he received as a gift from our great friend, Alan, before leaving for Denmark. He is also set up with a midi keyboard so he can work on music projects while he's there.

The kids and I are missing him terribly, but so thankful we are able to visit over FaceTime and see his face everyday... Thankful to be connecting with our family in Denmark, and for dear friends old & new who have reached out as well.

Will continute to update as we have news. Love to you all!
