My name is Jayne Lewis and I am raising money for my mother who lost it all in the Louisiana flood.
My mother, Joe Ann Baker is an 80 year old widow who has always worked to support her love and habit in being an antique dealer. She lost all of her inventory in her store to the flood.
She loves life and is enthusiastic about history and , selling items that tell stories. Her passion runs deep and gives her a sense of purpose and identity.
Her home, in Livingston Parish in a cove less than 2 miles from the Amite River. This is the river which flooded the entire Parish and surrounding areas.
Her store sat in the heart of the Denham Springs where flood has utterly destroyed the entire Historical Antique Village.

Her store, Heirlooms, is the yellow one on the right. It took in over 5-6 feet of water. All of the contents were distroyed.
Sadly, only 2 months prior, she cancelled her flood insurance because she didn't have the money to pay for the doubling of the yearly rate.
Lastly , the most injurious offense of all, her home and car also both succumbed to the flood ravaged Parish. It was underwater. She lost all of her furnishings in her home - refrigerator, stove, washer/dryer, beds, clothes, TV, and more.
We are removing everything in the house and piling it on the curb. Next, we will remove all of the sheet rock and repair any molded studs. This is so very traumatic for my mother.
Her infectious glee and radiant enthusiasm has waned into sorrow, and for the first time in my life, I've watched the twinkle leave her eyes.
She's determined to live in her home again, but without insurance and help, it could turn her twilight years into a dark, bleak existence.
We are willing to work hard, but we do need help. So I ask you please, if there is any donation that you can contribute to help my mom, we will be enternally grateful.
And the general public will have a jewel of an asset again within the antiquing world.
Thank you!
Jayne
