Jason's Courageous Cancer Battle

This Medical Fund has been created for my nephew, Jason Russell. He is 39 years old and the son of my sister, Dianna. Jason has a 13 year old daughter Ashlynn, who also resides with them in Cocoa, Florida .
In the beginning of December 2016, Jason started having seizures which would cause him to basically black out, loose all control of his muscles and stare into space. As you can imagine, this was quite scary and dangerous if he happened to be driving at the time of his seizures. After many trips to the local Hospital’s emergency room he was told he was having panic attacks.
Around January 3rd of this year Jason was having a panic attack but this time he lost feelings on his right side. In fear of a stroke his Mom was once again taking him to the emergency room. This time they ran several CAT scans, and did blood work. The CAT scan showed a tumor on his brain. This brain tumor caused abnormal pressure to build and therefore led to the seizures he was experiencing. Jason was immediately transported to Orlando Reginal Medical Center, who had a full neurology staff. Once admitted to the hospital and several more tests he was scheduled immediately for surgery to remove the tumor and alleviate the pressure in his brain. The scans also showed a tumor on his lung but the Neurosurgeon wanted to remove tumor on brain first. After 5 hours of surgery, the brain tumor was completely removed, and he was on the road to recovery. Jason continued his recovery at the hospital for 6 days, and then at home with the help of family and friends.
After his recovery, Jason felt better than he had felt in years, and was feeling very positive about his progress. The Orlando Reginal Medical Center doctors were anxious to continue their diagnoses of the tumor on Jason’s lung, but that had to wait while Jason applied for health insurance with the help of his Uncle Joey. Although this process took several weeks, Jason continued to improve and even went back to work at a local dealership detailing cars and trucks.
While Jason was waiting on insurance benefits to begin on March 1st, he had another seizure on February 24th which landed him back in the hospital. After numerous CT scans, Pet scans, and bloodwork he was told that the cancer was metastasizing in his brain again. This is very common in lung cancer to spread to the brain or other parts of the body. The tumor on his lung also had increased in size.
Once Jason’s health insurance began on March 1, the doctors were contacted, and additional tests were scheduled to determine the best way the treatments needed to be done. These tests required many visits to the Cancer Institute of Florida, which is approximately 60 miles away. During these tests the doctors decided to do radiation first on the brain, because of the metastasizing. In fact this is when Jason and his family first learned that he has Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
As you can imagine, this was the worst news they could have ever expected, and pretty much left everyone in shock. Now it’s time to rally the troops and do whatever we can to keep Jason on the road to recovery. Although Jason’s insurance afforded him the possibility to help diagnose his condition, treatments can be very expensive and not all are covered by insurance. He has started his radiation treatments on his brain tumor, and they are proposing to do immunotherapy. Tests show that Jason will be a good candidate for these treatments. The costs of travel to/from the Hospital in Orlando, and the inability for Jason and Dianna to work during this time frame, has really imposed quite a financial strain on them.
This GoFundMe Project was started by his Aunt Denise to help ease this financial burden on Jason and his family in their time of need. Jason has always been a healthy person, however, on that day in December, suddenly life surprised him with this cancer diagnosis, and he is looking for your help to cover some of the very expensive medical treatments. We never think it can happen to us. Sharing his story with family, friends, acquaintances, and all those who wish to support Jason’s Courageous Battle.
With great strength and faith, Jason maintains a positive and winning attitude. Jason is sure that with your support will enable him to fulfill the treatments and overcome cancer. Jason is a fighter and is determined to be a survivor.
We are so grateful for all your Love, Friendship, Prayers, and support as Jason faces the challenges ahead. Please donate as generously as allows using Jason’s Courageous Battle GoFundMe Project.
