My name is Ashli Stockton and I am from New York City. My mom, Jamie Tindle, has dedicated her entire life to caring for not only my brother but so many other's as the Executive Director of a non-profit, Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge. She works tirelessly and selflessly to provide services to those in need and now, she is going to be the one who will need a hand.
As many of you know a rainstorm of historic proportions has hit South Louisiana with a vengeance. Thousands of families lost everything including my mom and my brother, Alex. They were rescued from the rising waters by a few of the many heroes who have done amazing things over the past couple of days. Because my brother is in a wheelchair and requires special care, the circumstances were critical.
They are now safe and dry in one of the many shelters in the area. Yes, we are grateful that they are safe, but as reality hits they will need support to live and begin to rebuild. Thankfully they do have structural flood insurance (which doesn't cover anything inside the home) but we can all imagine how long and tedious this process of rebuilding will be. We will be using the funds to purchase clean up supplies as well as household items that are not covered by the structural insurance. We plan on having my mom get the money directly to be able to start purchasing things as soon as we start recovery and rebuilding the house.
Many people have asked what they can do to help and this page is in response to all of the loving, thoughtful notes. It's going to be a long road ahead, but this is a start.
