JOY for JOANNIE

Donation protected
First off, thank you for being here and taking the time to read what this cause is about. Our fundraiser is for Joanne Benkert who is an important person to many but for those of you who do not know Joanne (or JOANNIE as her late husband Joe used to call her) she’s the type of woman who would do anything for anyone and now that she is in need, it’s our turn to be there for her.

Just a month ago, Joanne was feeling ill and visited the doctor, only to find that what she thought had been a stomach virus, was in fact advanced Stage 4 Lung Cancer, with one of the tumors resting so close to her heart that it was deemed inoperable. A pet scan was ordered, bringing even scarier news that the cancer had already traveled throughout her lymph nodes to her brain and spine. Oncologist’s first concerns are treating three tumors located on the brain. Their plan of attack is to utilize radiation and immunotherapy as chemotherapy isn’t a possibility at this time. We’re sure you can imagine that copayments and uncovered procedure costs are astronomical. Images alone are $1,000 each! And with Joanne now unable to work, accumulating household bills and everyday living expenses have become burdensome.

There is a rough road ahead for Joanne and her three children Joseph, Kaitlyn and Amy. Sad to say, this family is no stranger to tragedy as Joanne’s husband Joseph, a Lindenhurst Volunteer Firefighter, died suddenly of a heart attack in 2006 when their youngest child was just 10 years old. They cannot do this alone which is why we are asking that you please consider donating as generously as you can.
Joanne is a good hearted person who has dedicated the majority of her life to volunteer work and our community is all the better for it! She is a two time Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department, a Past President of the Wyandanch FD Ladies Auxiliary and Joanne also worked closely with local seniors at the Lindenhurst Rainbow Center for many years. She is also very actively involved with helping out the Lindenhurst Fire Department Snails Drill Team and a Coach of the Junior Snails Drill Team, guiding children ages 8-17. Joanne has somehow managed to do all of these selfless things while working full time and raising her three children on her own.
As you can see, Joannie has fought tirelessly to bring joy to many. Won’t you join us in the spirit of the season to return some JOY to Joanne? Our goal is simple… we want her to be able to focus on living her life without having to worry about money. We ask that you kindly consider making any donation whether big or small. Funds will be used for doctor bills, hospital stays, housing, monthly living expenses, health care assistance and anything that may provide comfort to Joanne as she embarks upon this overwhelming journey.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and outpouring of love <3
