Jack's Cancer Journey

Donation protected

Please help Jack  and Kristy Lo Cicero and their family, as Jack faces the fight of his life.

After a few months of chronic laryngitis that Jack thought was due to acid reflux (a problem in the past), he was diagnosed with Stage 4, T2 throat cancer.

Numerous medical appointments and second opinions later, and an emergency tracheotomy early Easter morning, it became clear what Jack's treatment path needed to be for the survival of his diagnosis.

On April 26, 2018, Jack underwent a 10-hour, full laryngectomy at Mass Eye & Ear in Boston. Surgeons removed his larynx, vocal chords, part of his swallowing tube, and lymph nodes. His swallowing tube was rebuilt and his trachea redirected, leaving him to permanently breathe and speak through a stoma in his neck.

Jack will likely receive 7 weeks of daily radiation treatment and may also require chemotherapy, before starting speech therapy to relearn to eat and speak with his stoma.

In the meantime, Jack, Kristy, and their family are doing their best to stay positive.

In addition to a mountain of medical expenses and co-payments, Jack had  to go on long-term disability, which required that he take a reduction in income while also paying more for his health insurance premiums. As you know, Jack and Kristy are self-employed. They are both missing out on work as they go though this ordeal together.

Please consider making a donation to help this wonderful family, who gives so much to the community around them.
